The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, the young illustrious and visionary former Prime Minster of India.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Research Associate in a DBT funded research project entitled "Identification of transcriptional regulators expressed in Mycobacterium tuberculosis during reactivation from dormancy in vitro, and identification of their target sequences" in the laboratory of Dr. R Ajay Kumar at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram.

Essential qualifications: Ph.D. in Microbiology/Life Sciences/ Biotechnology. The project involves handling of virulent laboratory strain of M. tuberculosis. The candidate must be willing to work under strict bio-safety containment facilities.

Desirable qualifications: Experience in molecular biology and handling of M. tuberculosis.
Age: Below 35 years as on 11th January, 2013.

Emoluments: 22,000/- + 20% HRA.
Duration: Three years or till termination of the project (whichever is earlier).

Suitably qualified candidates may send applications in the prescribed format (rgcb.res.in/downloads/adv.doc) with a photograph, a copy of full resume and attested photocopies of credentials & experience to reach the undersigned on or before 11th January, 2013. Envelopes must be superscripted with abbreviated title of the project, advertisement number and job title. The appointment is subject to yearly assessment by a review committee and poor performance can lead to discontinuation of appointment. Selection to the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co terminus with end of the project.
