The North-Eastern Hill University Act (24 of 1973) passed by both Houses of Parliament received the assent of the President of India on May 26th, 1973. It was published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) on May 26th, 1973 together with the First Schedule of the Act incorporating the Statutes of the University.  The objectives of the University, as laid down in the act, are to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit; to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the hill areas of the North-eastern region, and in particular, the intellectual, academic and cultural advancement.

Post : Project Scientist-I (1 no)

Ours is a DBT-BTISNet centre focussing on Biodiversity Informatics in north east Indiaand it serves as an information base in various aspects of Biodiversity related to computational biology. Some of our important areas of research are molecular characterization and genome diversity in plants and helminth parasites of medico-veterinary importance with a focus on foodborne trematodiases. Extensive work on evolutionary bioinformatics and phylogenomics of foodborne trematodiases specific to the region, next generation sequencing and analysis of selected trematodes, orchids and carnivorous plants has also been established. Our earlier achievements/findings/leads from these above-mentioned projects will form the basis/pillars of the model network project “Biodiversity Informatics: North-east India Bio-Bank of Codes Network (NIBBCoNet): Bioinformatics Centre @NEHU, Shillong” The project will be a North-east India centric project in national network mode.

Applications with complete bio-data and a covering letter (SOP)  from candidates possessing the required qualifications are invited for the following research position in the DBT, GOI-funded project National Network Project of North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong".

We are deploying evolutionary models to study molecularand translational aspects of biodiversity research. We will utilize these systems to uncover molecular mechanisms for studying the past, present and future of biodiversity. The project focuses on unravellingthe mysteries of life both flora and fauna in close collaboration with several Investigatorsin the country.

The successful candidates will interact within a multi¬disciplinary environment of biologists, and computational scientists. The candidates are expected to work in close association with a diverse team to formulate hypo¬theses and validate predictions using genomic and transcriptomic assays.

Research Responsibilities
• Set up bioinformatics platforms and develop computational pipelines for the analysis of biodiversity heterogeneous datasets.
• Use computational techniques to published / unpublished biological data for the analysis and interpretation of omics datasets.

Your profile :
• Exceptional self-motivated computational research fellow with a strong analytical background and strong inclination towards natural sciences.
• Previous exposure to and experience with bioinformatics as well as interests in molecular aspects of biodiversity research
• Due to the interdisciplinary framework and close collaboration with wet-bench scientists, communicative skills (both spoken and writing) are essential
