MACS-Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) an autonomous Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India is committed to promoting science and technology with emphasis on high standards of research and development activities for the benefit of humankind and the nation. The current research activities encompass biological sciences and focus on six thematic areas Biodiversity & Palaeobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding and Nanobioscience.

Scientist- ‘E’ in Business Development

ii) Ten years research and development experience in the domain areas of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Business Administration, or a related field from Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations or research Institute or an Industrial Establishments.
Desirable :
 i) At least 3-5 years of experience in intellectual property management, technology commercialization, or industry liaison roles. 
ii) Proven expertise in patent drafting, licensing negotiations, and business development in the biotechnology or bioprocess sector. 
iii) Strong understanding of market analysis, business model development, and revenue generation strategies. 
iv) Excellent communication and networking skills to engage with industry stakeholders and promote ARl's offerings. 
v) Experience in organizing outreach activities, such as industry workshops, training programs, or technology showcases.

Job Description :
Facilitation of Patenting : ARl's research output includes numerous innovations with patent potential. A specialized Scientist can streamline the patenting process by identifying patentable technologies, drafting robust patent applications, and navigating intellectual property (IP) regulations to secure strong IP protection.
Commercialization of Technologies : Despite filing multiple patents, only a few ARI technologies have been commercialized. The Scientist will develop and execute strategies for technology transfer, including identifying potential industry partners, negotiating licensing agreements, and ensuring successful market entry of ARl's innovations.
Revenue Generation : ARl's analytical services, training programs, and proprietary technologies offer
substantial opportunities for revenue generation. The Scientist will design and implement business models to
monetize these assets, such as subscription-based service contracts, consultancy fees, and royalties from
licensed technologies.
Popularization of ARI Technologies and Services : Effective outreach and marketing are essential to increase the visibility of ARl's offerings. The Scientist will promote ARl's technologies, services, and training programs through targeted campaigns, industry workshops, and participation in trade fairs, ensuring wider
adoption by relevant stakeholders.
Liaison with Industry : Building strong, sustainable partnerships with industry is crucial for technology commercialization and service uptake. The Scientist will act as a bridge between ARI and industry, fostering collaborations, understanding industry needs, and aligning ARl's research and services to meet market demands.

Scientist - ‘C’ in Bioenergy

Essential : i) Ph.D. in Microbiology or Biochemical Engineering with a focus on bioenergy. 
ii) Five years research and development experience in the domain areas of Microbiology or Biochemical Engineering with a focus on bioenergy from Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations or research Institute or an Industrial Establishments.
Desirable :
i) At least 3-5 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in microbial process development and scale-up. 
ii) Proven expertise in operating and optimizing bioreactors for biofuel production. 
iii) Hands-on experience in strain improvement using genetic engineering, synthetic biology, or related techniques. 
iv) Demonstrated field experience in pilot-scale or industrial bioprocess operations. 
v) Strong publication record and ability to secure research funding in bioenergy-related projects. 
vi) Original published work of high standards in journals of international repute.

Job Description :
Process Development and Optimization : The candidate will design and optimize microbial processes for efficient biofuel production, ensuring high yields and cost- effectiveness. Expertise in bioprocess engineering is essential to develop robust protocols for industrial applications. 
Scale-Up of Bioprocesses : Scaling up laboratory processes to pilot and industrial levels is a critical bottleneck in biofuel production. The Scientist C will operate and optimize scale-up reactors, ensuring seamless transition from lab-scale to large-scale production while maintaining process efficiency and product quality. 
Strain Improvement : The candidate will employ advanced genetic and metabolic engineering techniques to enhance microbial strains for improved biofuel production. This includes increasing substrate utilization, product yield, and tolerance to industrial conditions. 
Large-Scale Culture Production : The Scientist C will oversee the development and maintenance of large-scale microbial cultures, ensuring consistent performance under industrial conditions. This includes expertise in bioreactor operations, fermentation technology, and culture stability. 
Field Experience : Practical, in-field experience in operating bioreactors and managing scale-up processes in industrial or pilot plant settings is highly desirable. Such experience ensures the candidate can address real-world challenges in biofuel production, including troubleshooting and process optimization under operational constraints.

Scientist- ‘B’ in Paleobiology

Essential / Desirable Qualifications for Corresponding Discipline 
Essential : i) Master’s Degree in Geology or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university. 
ii) Three years research and development experience in the domain areas of Geology or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university. From Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations or research Institute or an Industrial Establishments.
Desirable :
i) A Ph.D. in a relevant area. 
ii) Research experience in Palaeosciences or related subject disciplines after obtaining a Master’s Degree. 
iii) Experience in Mesozoic Mollusca, especially ammonoidea and allied biostratigraphy, and knowledge of other fossil groups such as Trace fossils and Brachiopoda. 
iv) Publications in journals with a JCR impact factor and/or a patent in the related areas. 
v) Original published work of high standards in journals of international repute.

Job Description :
1. Curation, cataloguing, and long-term management of fossil collections housed in the MACS Fossil Repository. Digitization of fossil records, including specimen metadata, stratigraphic information, images, and associated research data. Integrate digitized records with national and international biodiversity and palaeobiological data platforms where applicable. 
2. Undertake and participate in research in Palaeobiology, with emphasis on Foraminifera (Protista: Rhizaria) and related microfossil groups, with applications to paleoclimate reconstruction and Cenozoic paleoenvironmental studies. 
3. Operation and application of relevant analytical techniques such as optical and advanced microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with EDS, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS), and other sophisticated equipment relevant to the field. 
4. Understanding of advanced statistical methods, bioinformatics, palaeogenomics, molecular ecology, metabarcoding workflows, and applications related to marine environmental and pollution monitoring in relevant study areas. Contribute to interdisciplinary research integrating paleontology, climate science, and molecular biology. 
5. To publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals with JCR impact factor, participate in training, outreach, and academic activities of the Palaeobiology Group, and perform any other scientific duties as assigned by the Institute in the relevant field of research.

Essential : i) Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biotechnology, or related fields from a recognized university.
ii) Three years research and development experience in the domain areas of Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biotechnology, or related fields from Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations or research Institute or an Industrial Establishments.
Desirable :
i) Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or related areas; with expertise in NGS data analysis, transcriptomics, proteomics, or systems biology. 
ii) Proficiency in programming languages (e.g. Python, R), statistical analysis, and bioinformatics tools (e.g. BLAST, Bowtie, DESeq2). iii) Experience in molecular techniques such as PCR, RNA-Seq or protein modeling is a plus. 
iv) Publications in journals with a JCR impact factor and/or a patent in the related areas. 
v) Original published work of high standards in journals of international repute.

Job Description :
Data Analysis and Interpretation : The institute’s work in genomics (e.g. sequencing of microbial or plant genomes), proteomics (e.g., protein profiling), and transcriptomics (e.g., RNA-Seq analysis) generates complex datasets. A bioinformatician with expertise in sequence assembly, alignment, annotation, and statistical analysis is critical to process and interpret these data accurately. For instance, tools like metagenomics pipelines, pathway enrichment analysis, and protein structure prediction are vital for advancing ARI’s research objectives. 
Complementing Existing Expertise : ARI’s scientists are actively engaged in experimental work related to sequencing and molecular biology. However, the institute lacks sufficient in-house bioinformatics expertise to handle the computational demands of omics research. A Scientist B in Bioinformatics will bridge this gap by providing specialized skills in data integration, molecular dynamics simulations, and systems biology modeling, thereby enhancing the productivity of existing teams.
 Advancing Multi-Omics Integration : ARI’s research aligns with global trends toward integrative omics approaches, where genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics data are combined to provide a holistic understanding of biological systems. A bioinformatician is needed to develop workflows for multi-omics data integration, enabling ARI to stay at the forefront of biotechnology and biological sciences research. 
Supporting Funded Projects : ARI is a key research center under several All India Coordinated Research Projects (e.g., wheat, soybean, and grape breeding) and has received grants for bioinformatics-related research. A Scientist B in Bioinformatics will ensure the successful execution of these projects by providing expertise in NGS analysis, phylogenetic studies, and database development, which are often required in grant deliverables. 
Capacity Building and Training : The recruitment of a bioinformatician will enable ARI to build capacity in computational biology. The Scientist B can train students, junior researchers, and staff in bioinformatics tools and techniques, fostering a culture of interdisciplinary research and enhancing the institute’s reputation as a leader in biological sciences.

Age Limit
Note 1 : The upper age limit is relaxable in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and other categories in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government from time to time. Note 2 : Relaxable for Government servants and employees of Autonomous Research Organisations / Research Institutes/ Universities, etc., up to five years in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government from time to time. 
Note 3 : The crucial date for determining the age limit and eligibility shall be closing date for submission of application.

General Terms
(i) The Institute reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason. 
(ii) For applications a non-refundable application fee of Rs.500/- (except SC/ST and women candidates) to be paid online through onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/ (Educational Institutions-Category-Agharkar Research Institute-Payment Category- Others-Enter Payment details. Candidate should attach the receipt of online payment of fees and indicate the online receipt number in the application form. The Institute is not responsible for any incomplete/pending/failed transactions of online application fee payments and they may contact the concerned bank in this regard. 
(iii) Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS should submit a latest copy of Cast Certificate/Certificates and candidates who claim concession/ relaxation being PwBD and other categories of candidates need to bring relevant certificates issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed proforma applicable for reservation/concession of jobs under the Government of India including all the certificates supporting for having acquired their equivalent educational qualification at the time of closing date of submission of applications. 
(iv) There will be a probation period of Two years for Scientist-B and One year for Scientists C & E respectively which may be extended at the discretion of the Competent Authority. 
(v) The pay and allowances & other benefits includes NPS, Medical reimbursement, LTC etc. are presently admissible as per rules of the Institute. 
(vi) Candidates selected will be governed under NPS Rules. 
(vii) Period spent on acquiring essential qualifications shall not count towards experience. However, period spent on obtaining a Doctorate degree from a recognised University or Institution, subject to a maximum of two years or period spent on Post Doctorate research in a University or research institute, as evidenced by certification by such University or Institute and publication of research work in journals of repute, subject to a maximum of two years, shall be counted as experience. 
(viii) All educational, professional and technical qualifications should be from a recognized Board/ University 
(ix) The applicants are advised to visit the Institute's website aripune.res.in regularly. Any addendum/corrigendum or any update regarding the recruitment process shall be posted only on the Institute’s website. 
(x) Candidates are advised in their own interest to submit online applications much before the closing date and not to wait till the last date to avoid the possibility of disconnection/ inability or failure to login to the portal on account of heavy load on the website during the closing days.

(xi) The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. The consideration of qualifications as equivalent to the essential and desirable qualifications stated above shall be the discretion of the relevant committee constituted for scrutinizing the applications. If the number of applications received in response to advertisement is large, the Institute may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit through a shortlisting process based on a well-defined criterion which may include possessing of desirable qualifications and / or experience more than that prescribed in the advertisement and/or qualifications/ experience in a particular field as per the specific requirement of the Department. A reserve panel of candidates in order of merit will be prepared from the candidates called for interview which will remain valid for a period of one year from the date of interview. The panel can be utilized to fill up vacancy arising as advertised as well as vacancy that might arise/ may have arisen subsequent to the date of publication of this advertisement due to any reason like retirement/resignation/death etc. 
(xii) Details of SCI Journal publications : Candidates are expected to submit a list of journal publications along with copies of 4 best papers authored by them in the last 5 years chronologically listing: Names of authors, Title of the paper, Name of the Journal, Volume, Pages (From-to), Year, citation count, impact factor of the journal etc. 
(xiii) Incomplete/partially filled application forms will not be considered. 
(xiv) Any legal proceedings in respect of any matter of claim or dispute arising out of this advertisement and or an application in response thereto can be instituted only in Pune and courts at Pune only shall have sole and exclusive jurisdiction to try any such cause/dispute. 
(xv) No correspondence will be entertained from candidates who are not called for interview / selected for appointment.
