National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, is an autonomous R&D Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The institute carries out cutting edge research at the interface of agricultural biotechnology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, food processing, postharvest technology, and nutritional sciences. Major research programs aim at i) understanding the interactions among proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, accumulation of micronutrients, enhancing bioavailability, health functions and processing quality of foods, ii) crop improvement through both molecular breeding and transgenic approaches, iii) quality and postharvest stability of farm produce, and iv) the development of novel food products and technologies.

Opportunity for research trainees are available at NABI, Mohali for 4 to 6 months starting from July to Dec, 2012. The area of research training would be related to plant molecular biology, plant biotechnology, bioinformatics, genetics and plant breeding, nutrition biotechnology, and food biotechnology. Apart from lab works, each trainee has to involve in research field works and plant growth chambers for growing and testing research materials.

ii) Duration of training : 4 to 6 months (July to Dec, 2012)

v) Application process :
In prescribed application format available on NABI website (http://www.nabi.res.in/Training.aspx) by post. The application should reach NABI on or before May 21, 2012 by 6:00 PM. The synopsis (available at http://www.nabi.res.in/Training.aspx) should be submitted by e-mail (trainee@nabi.res.in).

vii) Selection procedure : Through screening and selection based on merit, experience, and expression of interest submitted by candidates

viii) Documents required :
1) The complete application form
2) Synopsis
3) Application forwarded by Head of Department
4) Attested copies of mark sheets/certificates/ experiences/birth certificate
5) Expression of interests (500 word statement describing significance of research in the subject category applied for)

ix) Stipend: A nominal stipend would be paid to the selected trainees. The number of trainees to be considered for stipend will be decided by the selection committee.

Note:
i) The request for short term training must come from the Head of Department and must provide the academic resumes of the recommended student(s) as well as the period of the proposed project work.
ii) Request will be considered on the basis of requirements of Scientists/Research Scholars.
iii) The candidate should clearly indicate on the application form the subject category applied for training
iv) The minimal eligibility criterion for consideration of the requests is first division or an equivalent grade (or at least 60% of aggregate scores) in graduation or equivalent exam and at least 60% marks in first year of M.Sc./M.Tech.
v) The selected candidate will receive official email (trainee@nabi.res.in) regarding acceptance and duration of the training and be uploaded on NABI’s URL.
vi) Opportunities are also available for short-term/summer trainees in the institute through sponsored programs from government agencies such as the KVPY, JNCASR, INSA/IAS/NASI.
