In 1956 foundation for new medical college was laid and in 1964, hospital was inaugurated. JIPMER became an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2008. It is an institution established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health. JIPMER spreads over 192 acres.

The Regional Research Institute for Siddha in Puducherry was established on 22nd August, 1979. The Government of Puducherry came forward to provide basic infrastructure for setting up of this institute. Initially, the institute was located in a block of Government General Hospital. This institute started functioning in its own premises at Kuyavarpalaiyam since 2003 with a well-maintained campus and picturesque herbal garden with more than 150 medicinal plants.

Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar is a constituent of Central Council for Resesarch in Unani Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, Since 1985. Over the past few decades this institute has emerged as the leading institute of the Unani medical research in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The campus houses a building which contains Clinical Department (including Opd, ipd, Labortaries, Pharmacy), SMPU (Survey of Medicinal Plant Unit), Drug Standardization Research Unit (DSRU), Administrative Block, PG Department, canteen.
