Clinical courses

Black men are twice as likely to suffer from prostate cancer than compared to white counterparts.

The study looked at both the lifetime risk of being diagnosed as well as dying from the disease for every major ethnic group. According to the research, the estimated lifetime risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer is approximately 29.3 percent for black men, 13.3 percent for white men and 7.9 percent for Asian men. However, the research did not reveal why there is an increased risk of prostate cancer in black men.

The study is published in the journal BMC Medicine.
