The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, for a mandate of basic research, teaching & training, and as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus, Pune. NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely on temporary basis.
Research Associate - I
Number of posts : 01 (One)
Name of the Project : Identification and validation of Neoantigens in a syngenic mouse model of ovarian cancer.
Name of the PI : Dr. Sharmila Bapat
Essential Qualification & Experience : Ph. D/MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/M.Pharm/ME/M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
Desirable Experience : Experience in Immunology (Flow cytometry, immune-staining, immune -histochemisty, H and E staining), mouse handling and cell biology (cell culture, cell based assays)
Project Tenure : Project Tenure will be 2 years subjected to yearly renewal.
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 47000 + HRA

Research Associate - I

Name of the Project : Characterization of Pseudogene-like CTs in Ovarian Cancer.
Name of the PI : Dr. Sharmila Bapat
Essential Qualification & Experience : Ph. D/MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/M.Pharm/ME/M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
Desirable Experience : Experience in molecular biology (PCR, Cloning, protein expression, western blotting, Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridisation, Immuno-precipitation, cell fractionation), bioinformatics and/or RNA biology (In-vitro transcription/translation, RNA FISH, RNA pull down).
Project Tenure : Upto 23.01.2026
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 47000 + HRA

Project Associate - II

Name of the Project : Characterization of the effect of pathogenic Cltc variants in early development.
Name of the PI : Dr. Deepa Subramanyam
Essential Qualification & Experience :
Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent; And
2 years’ experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or
Science and Technology Organisations and Scientific activities and services.
Desirable Experience : Experience in Molecular biology, cell culture, fly genetics and behaviour, CRISPR/Cas9 based gene editing, immunocytochemistry, microscopy.
Project Tenure : Up to 13.09.2025
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 28000/- + HRA

Project Associate - II

Name of the Project : Understanding the role of specific serotonin receptor signalling in modulating the antigen-specific immunity to control tumor growth.

Essential Qualification & Experience : Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in
Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent; And 2 years’ experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations and Scientific activities and services.
Desirable Experience : This project is time bound with the deliverables, and applicants are expected to have experience in handling animals (mice), Immunological assay, primary T cell isolation and culture, ELISA, multicolour flow cytometry and confocal microscopy and Western blots.
Project Tenure : Up to 10.09.2026
Total Monthly Emoluments :
(i) 35,000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through
(a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship
(Assistant Professorship) or GATE or
(b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by
Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.
(ii) 28000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under (i) above.

Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent;
Desirable Experience : A minimum of one year research experience in Animal Cell Culture, Molecular Biology and / or Cell Biology.
Project Tenure : Up to 28/02/2029
Total Monthly Emoluments :
(i) Rs. 31000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through
(a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or
(b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.
(ii) Rs. 25000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under (i) above.

Project Associate - I

Project Assistant
Number of posts : 01 (One)
Name of the Project : Delineation of the major brain G protein, G o mediated signaling pathway using C. elegans model system.
Name of the PI : Dr. Santosh Kumar
Essential Qualification & Experience : B.Sc. / 3 years Diploma in Engineering & Technology.
Desirable Experience:
Candidate with strong background in Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
techniques will be preferred. Candidate with prior experience in C. elegans genetics and cell biology will be given preference.
Project Tenure : Upto 29/12/2024
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 20000/- + HRA
Age limit : Not more than 50 years as on last date of application.

Other important Points
1. The Director, NCCS reserves the right to enhance/reduce the number of posts and cancel the recruitment process, if required. Additional percentage and experience cut-off will be applied during the screening process, if required.
2. The prescribed educational qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for Walk in Interviews. The Centre reserves the right to call for Walk in Interviews only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
3. Number of candidates to be called for the interview may be restricted to a reasonable limit after taking into consideration the essential qualifications and desirable experience over and above the minimum prescribed, in the advertisement. Therefore, it will be in the interest of the candidates, to mention all the qualifications and experience in the relevant field at the time of applying. No interim enquiries/correspondence/communication of any sort will be entertained on this matter.
4. The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time on the extramural projects funded by various funding agencies. The position will automatically co-terminus on the completion of the candidate’s tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS, Pune.
5. Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under project will be made in accordance with the sanction order or latest DST O.M whichever the case may be.
6. Age limit will be considered as on closing date of receipt of application. Age relaxation of 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates will be given as per Government of India rules. OBC candidates must produce latest/valid non-creamy layer certificate. Reservation as per Govt, of India norms will be followed.
7. Age & Experience may be relaxed in exceptional cases by the Competent Authority.
8. No TA/DA will be admissible for attending the interview.
9. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as disqualification for the post.
10. The posts advertised shall be need based without any commitment for its filling.
11. Selected candidates will have to join duty within one month of the receipt of offer of appointment.
