The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is the first University Grants Committee (UGC) funded institution that provides higher education in Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. The School has all along been striving to promote the modernization and internationalization of Chinese medicine in teaching, research, clinical service and technology, with the aim to contribute to the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. Job Description
Duties: The appointee is expected to perform duties including:
a) routine animal husbandry;
b) transgenic mouse genotyping;
c) brain surgery for ICV delivery and cannula implantation;
d) routine primary cell culture (cortex and hippocampal neuronal culture from embryonic mice and rats);
e) drug administration (oral, IP, IV and ICV) and sample collection; and
f) IHC, ICC, Western blots, real-time PCR.
He/She is also required to participate in and conduct animal behavioral (Morris water maze, Contextual fear conditioning, etc) and pharmacokinetic studies.
Candidate profile
Qualifications: Applicants should possess a Master's Degree or a PhD Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Neuropharmacology, or Biological Sciences, with at least two to three years of experience in
research laboratory involving Neurodegenerative mouse model experiments involving transgenic mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, drug administration, behavioral and IHC. Experience in vivo surgery techniques such as brain dissection, ICV delivery and CSF collection is most preferred. Experience in some primary neuronal cell culture and molecular biology techniques especially histology, immunohistochemistry and microscopy/confocal microscopy would be advantageous. Working outside normal office hours may be required. The research group is multidisciplinary, and personal suitability for work in a group with different types of professionals is emphasized.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of one year
2. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
