Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) can trace its origins to the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry established by the French Government in 1823. In 1956 foundation for new medical college was laid and in 1964, hospital was inaugurated. JIPMER became an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2008. It is an institution established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health. JIPMER spreads over 192 acres.

The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is a Comprehensive Cancer Centre with a mission to achieve the highest standards in patient care, cancer prevention, cancer research and professional development for oncology and allied disciplines. TMC is an autonomous body funded, controlled by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. TMC is affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI).

The All India Institute of Ayurveda has been conceived as an Apex Institute for Ayurveda. It aims at bringing a synergy between Traditional Wisdom of Ayurveda and Modern tools and technology. The institute would offer postgraduate and doctoral courses in various disciplines of Ayurveda and will focus on fundamental research of Ayurveda, drug development, standardization, quality control, safety evaluation and scientific validation of Ayurvedic medicine. Kamdhenu University has been established and incorporated by the Government of Gujarat as a teaching and affiliating University for the development of Veterinary and Animal Sciences including Dairy, Fisheries and Allied Sciences and for furthering the advancement of learning, conducting need based research and dissemination of findings of research and other technical information (lab to land) in Veterinary and Animal Sciences including Dairy, Fisheries and Allied Sciences in the State of Gujarat.

RMRC, Gorakhpur is one of the 26 Institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), under Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of Government of India. Initially, in order to understand the problem of persistent acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in eastern Uttar Pradesh, a Field Unit of ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune was established in Gorakhpur in 2008.
