For quite a few years since the Rio-Summit, 1992 there have been discussions at various local forum about the requirement of a capable institution to take care of the rich biodiversity of Manipur and its surrounding areas. The inclusion of the North East Region in the list of Mega-biodiversity hot-spots of the world caused an ever increased fillip to the researchers, resource planners, environmental enthusiasts and the local think- tanks about stopping depletion of biodiversity in the region and finding scientific ways of sustainable uses of bioresources.  Bio-industrialists and traders exploit the ignorance and poverty of the tribal population in hunting and illegal trading of the wild flora and fauna of the region. The situation is bad enough to warn us that before we can fully understand, assess and plan a sustainable use of the Bioresources in the North Eastern Region, its habitat exposed to the world as a mega-biodiversity hot-spot is likely to be destroyed in no time.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and three inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes.

Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute (CSRTI), Mysore, the pioneer research institution in the field of tropical sericulture, was established at Chennapattna in 1961 under the administrative control of Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India for the over all development of silk industry in the country. During the course of development the Institute was shifted to Mysore the princely city in the year 1963. Over the years the Institute has grown in to a full pledged centre of excellence and provided commendable support to enhance silk productivity and quality ensuring generation of higher income for the farmers.

Inaugurated on 2nd June 2017 under the visionary mentorship of Hon. Vice Chancellor and renowned scientist in the field of Pharmacy, Prof. M.P.S. Ishar, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, MRSPTU is established to provide greater focus on the excellence in academia and research.

Gauhati University Post Graduate Correspondence school started in May, 1998 with the objective of helping those who could not enroll as regular students. The PGCS aims at providing an opportunity to these students to obtain a Post Graduate degree of the Gauhati University through the mode of correspondence education. The degree from PGCS shall have the same standard and status as the regular Post Graduate degree as the syllabi for the two courses are the same.

Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University), ranked among the top health sciences universities in India, had its origin as Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research which was established by Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust in the year 1985 as a private not-for-profit self-financing institution and dedicated to serve the society as a centre of excellence with emphasis on medical education, research and health care. The Trust achieved the task of establishing the Institution as a “Centre of Excellence” under the leadership of Late Shri. N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar who was the Founder & Managing Trustee of the Trust and also the first Chancellor of the Deemed to be University. Shri. V.R. Venkataachalam is currently the Chancellor of the Deemed to be University and is also the Managing Trustee of the Trust.

NIT Rourkela is one of the premier national level institutions for technical education in the country and is funded by the Government of India. Government of India has elevated the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela to a deemed university under the name of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. The main objective of the institute is to produce quality Engineers and Scientists in Graduate and Post-Graduate levels in various branches of Engineering and Science. The institute is managed by the Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology (Rourkela) Society and vested with significant degree of administrative and financial autonomy.

The Central University of Rajasthan has been established by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 25 of 2009, The Gazette of India, No. 27, published on 20th March, 2009 as a new Central University, and is fully funded by the Government of India. The President of India, His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee, is the Visitor of the Central University of Rajasthan.
