The Drugs Consultative Committee (DCC) is contemplating sale of drugs and medicines by internet in India and for that purpose they constituted a subcommittee to examine risks and apprehensions related to such online sale through internet.

The DCC, a statutory body under Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, in its 48th meeting, considered the issue of sale of medicines over Internet by certain web portals and after deliberations constituted a sub­committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Harshadeep Kamble, IAS, Commissioner, FDA, Maharashtra, to examine the issue.

The sub-committee would look into the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules, 1945 and it shall also examine the practices being followed in the developed countries, where such provisions are available, evaluate the risks and concerns related to such online sale via internet and its impact on public health.

The sub-committee in its first meeting decided to invite comments / suggestions from the general public. Therefore, all individuals / associations / trade bodies / companies etc. desirous of submitting comments / suggestions on the subject matter are requested to send their responses to Dr. Harshadeep Kamble.
