Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) can trace its origins to the ‘Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry’ established by the French Government in 1823. In 1956 foundation for new medical college was laid and in 1964, hospital was inaugurated. JIPMER became an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2008. It is an institution established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health. JIPMER spreads over 192 acres. The institution houses one administrative block, one academic centre, one nursing college, seven hospital blocks, seven accessory services buildings and four residential complexes.

Applications are invited from eligible applicants for the posts of Professor and Assistant Professor on regular basis in the following specialties at JIPMER, Puducherry and Karaikal campuses by 01.07.2025 (Tuesday), 4:30 PM.

Professor of Microbiology
No of posts : Puducherry campus 2 (UR-1; OBC-1)
Essential qualifications : (a) A medical qualification included in the first or second schedule or Part II of the third schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (persons possessing qualifications included in part II of the third schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in Section 13 (3) of the Act). (b) A postgraduate qualification i.e., M.D. in Microbiology or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto. 
Experience : Fourteen years’ teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in Microbiology after obtaining the qualifying degree of MD in Microbiology or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto.

Assistant Professor of Microbiology
No of posts : Puducherry campus : 2 (1 OBC; 1 SC)
Karaikal campus : 3 (UR-2; OBC-1)
Essential qualifications : Same as Professor of Microbiology. 
Experience : Three years’ teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in Microbiology after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D. in Microbiology or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto.


Professor of Pharmacology
No of posts : Puducherry campus : 3 (UR-1; OBC-1; SC-1)
Karaikal campus : 1 UR
Essential qualifications : Medical Essential qualifications : (a) A medical qualification included in the first or second schedule or Part II of the third schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (persons possessing qualifications included in part II of the third schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in Section 13 (3) of the Act). (b) A postgraduate qualification i.e., M.D. in Pharmacology or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto. 
Experience : Fourteen years’ teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in Pharmacology after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D. in Pharmacology or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto. 
Non-Medical Essential Qualifications : 
(a) A postgraduate qualification i.e., Master’s degree in Pharmacology or allied subjects from a recognized university/institution. 
(b) Ph.D. degree from a recognized university / institution. 
Experience : Fourteen years’ teaching and/or research experience in the concerned discipline/subject in recognized institutions/universities after obtaining the Ph.D. degree.

General terms and conditions
1. The above vacancies are provisional and subject to variation. Director, JIPMER reserves the right to vary / amend / cancel the above vacancies as per requirements of the Institute or otherwise. 
2. Eligible applicants fulfilling the essential educational qualifications and experience should apply ONLINE by 01.07.2025 (Tuesday), 4.30 PM. All applicants are advised to read the advertisement carefully before filling up the online application form and ensure that all requisite details are submitted.
3. The details for applying Online are as follows :
• The link to apply online will be live from 2nd June, 2025 onwards at the Institute’s website (jipmer.edu.in).
• The link will be live to apply till 1st July, 2025 (Last date for receipt of online application)

• Applicants should read these instructions carefully before filling the online application form.
4. The applicant must upload a coloured photograph and signature as per the following details:
a) Photograph : 50 Kb - 200 Kb (Only JPEG and JPG formats)
b) Signature : 50 Kb - 200 Kb (Only JPEG and JPG formats)
5. Upper age limit : Professor : Not exceeding 58 years as on the closing date i.e., 01.07.2025
Assistant Professor : Not exceeding 50 years as on the closing date i.e., 01.07.2025
6. Upper age limit is relaxable by five years in case of posts reserved for SC/ST candidates, three years in case of posts reserved for OBC candidates. Further age relaxation is permissible for government servants and PwBD as per guidelines by the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. 
7. No age relaxation would be available to SC/ST/OBC candidates applying for unreserved vacancies. 
8. Horizontal Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) : 5 backlog vacancies. The functional requirements and Benchmark Disability (BD) for each Department are mentioned in Annexure 1. 
9. The crucial date for determination of upper age limit, qualification and experience will be the last date of online submission of application. The period of experience will be counted only after obtaining the prescribed education qualification for the respective post.
10. Pay Level as per 7th CPC (NPA applicable only for candidates possessing medical qualification) :
Professor : Not exceeding 58 years as on the closing date i.e., 01.07.2025
Assistant Professor : Not exceeding 50 years as on the closing date i.e., 01.07.2025


11. In addition to submission of online application, the applicant must submit the hard copy of the online submitted application to the address mentioned below at point 4 and the soft copy of the online submitted application by email to facrectt2024@jipmer.ac.in along with all the following certificates/enclosures in the order mentioned below within the stipulated time. 
a) Print out of the Online application form 
b) Proof of age (i.e. High School/Higher Secondary Certificate/Birth Certificate) 
c) UG degree Certificate 
d) PG degree Certificate(s) 
e) Ph.D. degree Certificate (If applicable) 
f) Registration Certificates and renewal validity
g) Experience Certificates 
• Experience certificates should be from the competent authority of the institution/organization for the entire experience claimed, clearly showing the duration of experience i.e., <from> to <to>, nature of experience i.e., either teaching and/or research etc. 
• The applicants should mention only those teaching experiences which are recognized by NMC (erstwhile MCI)/DCI/recognized teaching institutions, wherever applicable, and after obtaining the requisite educational qualification for the applied post. 
h) Caste certificate SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/EWSs/PwBD issued by the competent authority (If applicable, as per GoI norms) 
i) No Objection Certificate (NOC) (applicable for applicants working in Central/State Government/ Autonomous Institutions/Statutory organization/PSU’s under Central/State Govt. on regular basis) 
j) Any other relevant documents 
k) Brief resume and a list of five best publications of the candidate (in the prescribed format only) (Annexure 2) 
l) Reprints of five best publications (Not more than 5 publications must be attached
Note : In the event that an applicant submits a certificate in a Foreign Language, an English translation must accompany it

• Documents mentioned at 11 (k) and 11 (l) must be submitted in a single pdf.
12. The applicant shall be responsible for the authenticity of all the information submitted by him/her in the online application form and the documents submitted along with the application form by hard copy/ soft copy. Submission of any false and/or suppression/concealment of facts shall lead to disqualification/cancellation of his/her candidature/selection.

14. Failure to submit the hard copy and soft copy of the Online submitted application along with necessary certificates/enclosures mentioned at point 11 above within the stipulated time, submission of application(s) with incomplete information as required and non-remittance of requisite application fee will be rejected without any communication.
15. Applicants willing to apply for posts at both JIPMER, Puducherry and JIPMER, Karaikal must submit separate online application with the required application fee and must send the soft copy and hard copy as per the instructions mentioned at point above. Further, if a candidate wishes to apply for more than one post i.e., Professor and Assistant Professor, he/she must apply separately. 16. All the posts carry usual allowances as admissible to JIPMER employees. 
17. In case of applicants already employed in Central/State Govt./Autonomous Institutions/Statutory organization/PSU’s under Central/State Govt. on regular basis, he/she should route his/her application(s) through proper channel. While forwarding the application(s) through proper channel, a certificate to the effect that Central Govt./State Govt./Union Territory or the present Department/ Organizations has ‟No Objection” for the Officer to apply for JIPMER, Puducherry/Karaikal must be submitted along with the application so that, in case of selection, the Officer concerned will be relieved from the present Department/Organization to join JIPMER, Puducherry/Karaikal. 
18. In case of age relaxation for government servants, age relaxation will be admissible only to those employees working under Central Government not under Autonomous Body/State Government/PSU and working in posts which are in the same line or allied cadres and here a relationship could be established that the service already rendered in a particular post will be useful for the efficient discharge of duties of the post(s) to which has been advertised. Decision in the regard will rest with the competent authority, JIPMER. 
19. The persons belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWSs/PwBD must submit the certificate in the requisite proforma duly issued by the authority concerned (if applicable). 
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certificate issued by the competent authority during the current financial year i.e., between 1.4.2025 and 31.3.2026 will be considered as VALID CERTIFICATE 
• Income and Assets certificate to be produced by Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) should be valid for the year 2025-26. 
20. Details of application fees: Application fees for each category as mentioned below to be paid by the applicant using ANY ONE of the mode of payment: Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card and UPI. No other mode of payment will be accepted.
UR/OBC/EWSs : 1,500 + Transaction Charges as applicable
SC/ST : 1,200 + Transaction Charges as applicable
PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability) : Exempted from application fees
21. The application fee once remitted will not be refunded. 

22. DEFINITION OF CATEGORIES (i) Unreserved (UR): Unreserved stands for all applicants including OBC/SC/ST/EWSs. (Only such SC/ST/OBC/EWSs candidates who are selected on the same standard as applied to general candidates shall be treated as own merit candidates. If any SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidate is selected by getting any relaxation in age, etc., he/she shall be counted against reserved vacancies. Such a candidate cannot be considered for appointment against an unreserved vacancy).
(ii) Other Backward Classes (OBC) : Applicants are required to ensure that he/she does not belong to the persons/sections (Creamy Layer) mentioned in Column 3 of the Schedule to the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training O.M. No. 36012/22/93-Estt. (SCT) dated 08/09/93 which is modified vide OM No. 36033/3/2004 Estt. (Res.) dated 09/03/2004 or the latest notification of the Government of India (i.e. Central list) in support of his/her claim. (iii) Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST): Applicants are required to produce the necessary certificate as prescribed in M.H.A., O.M., No. 42/21/49-N.G.S. dated the 28.1.1952, as revised in Dept. of Per-& A.R. letter No. 36012/6/76-Est. (S.CT), dated the 29.10.1977, to be produced by candidate belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe in support of his/her claim. 
(iv) Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): The minimum degree of disability should be 40% (Benchmark Disability) in order to be eligible for availing reservation for persons with specified disability. The degree of the candidates’ disability will be assessed by the JIPMER medical board, whose decision will be final in this regard. 
(v) Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs): Candidates who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs and whose family has gross annual income below Rs. 8.00 lakh (Rupees Eight Lakh Only) are to be identified as EWS for benefit of reservation. Income shall include income from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc. for the financial year prior to the year of application. Also persons whose family owns or possesses any of the following assets shall be excluded from being identified as EWS, irrespective of the family income: 
a) 5 acres of agricultural land and above; 
b) Residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. and above; 
c) Residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities; 
d) Residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities. The property held by a "Family" in different locations or different places/cities would be clubbed while applying the land or property holding test to determine EWS status. The term "Family" for this purpose will include the person who seeks benefit of reservation, his/her parents and siblings below the age of 18 years as also his/her spouse and children below the age of 18 years. (As per the Office Memorandum F.No.36039/1/2019 dt 31st January 2019 by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances& Pension & F.No. A11013/01/2019 dt. 28th February 2019 by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India). 

23. MODE OF SELECTION : Personal interview / Online by video conferencing In case a huge number of applications are received for any discipline, then either a written exam may be conducted for shortlisting the candidates (or) the Standing Selection Committee may shortlist candidates for the interview. The decision of the competent authority at JIPMER will be final. 
24. Interviews to the advertised posts will be held in a phased manner. The decision of the competent authority, JIPMER in this regard will be final and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained. 
25. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the Personal interview. 
26. The selected candidates for JIPMER, Karaikal will be posted to work at JIPMER Karaikal campus and they will not have any right to seek their transfer to JIPMER Puducherry campus. 
27. Canvassing of any kind in favour of any candidate will lead to disqualification. 
28. The applicant should not have been convicted by any court of law. 
29. The disputes, if any with regard to eligibility/selection process/appointment etc., will be subject to Jurisdiction of Puducherry/Chennai. 
30. Other terms and conditions will be governed by the relevant rules and orders that are in force and amended from time to time.
