The Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) is a premier research organization in frontier areas of modern biology. The objectives of the Centre are to conduct high quality basic research and training in frontier areas of modern biology, and promote centralized national facilities for new and modern techniques in the inter-disciplinary areas of biology.

Unlike postgraduate institutes, which lack core departments like anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, etc., the new AIIMS will have these departments as well as superspecialty departments like neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, urology, endocrinology etc. . Accident and Emergency, Biostatistics, Medical Engineering, Hospital Administration, Genetics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Telemedicine, Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Education Cell etc.

NIPER Ahmedabad was initiated with three specializations Biotechnology, Natural Products and Pharmaceutics and over the period of time three more specialisations Pharmaceutical Analysis, Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology and Toxicology were added in 2010. Subsequently in 2011, to cater the needs of Medical device industry in India, another feather was added to the cap of NIPER Ahmedabad in the form of specialisation in Medical Devices.

Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage.
