The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Panjab University is a premier institution of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in the country. ABSTRACT
Current experimental investigation is dedicated to formulated alginate floating microbeads of Isoniazid as a model drug by ion cross-linking method or ion gelation technique using calcium chloride as cross-linking agent. Drug effectiveness might be influenced by blood plasma protein binding. The less bound drug is more viable it can cross cell membrane and diffuse. Protein binding can impact the drug’s biological half-life in the body. Isoniazid was first generation antibiotic which are used for the resistance is an obstacle to the treatment of tuberculosis disease and latent tuberculosis infection. The permeability of Isoniazid study using different membrane (Egg membrane and cellophane membrane). The IN VITRO drug release studies showed the optimized formulation of drug release 91 % in cellophane membrane and 88 % in egg membrane at 60 mins. The percentage buoyancy and swelling index of microbeads F1-F4 respectively 53-72% and 56-76%. The drug entrapment efficiency of the microbeads prepared from sodium alginate alone were found to be in the range of 52-71%.Experimental report revealed that Isoniazid loaded microbeads may act as ideal nano formulation with elaborated studies.

Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). This futuristic innovation institute of its own kind in the country has a mission of advancing knowledge, leads and emerging technologies/processes relevant to agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalysing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, value-addition to bioproducts etc. with special reference to the agri-food sector. Currently, the four major mandated R&D areas in hand at the institute are (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/ Wastes for Edible Products; (B) Valorisation of Crop Waste for Speciality Products and Chemicals; (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and upgradation of value or use of bio-products, (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes. To support and steer this mission, the institute requires following temporary research positions on stipendary / fellowship basis.

The Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali (INST-Mohali) has been established by the Government of India as a specialized centre of excellence to promote the growth of R&D in, and exploit the application-potential of, Nano Science and Technology in the country. It is envisaged that INST-Mohali will initially focus on R&D in the areas of nanomaterials, nanometrology, nano-bio pharma, nano-medicine and on nano R&D relevant for food and agriculture.
