Openings for Ph.D, M.Pharm, MSc at NCCS

NCCS is an autonomous institute of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. It is at the forefront of basic research in diverse area of cell biology. The contributions made by scientists of NCCS have gained worldwide recognition.

NCCS invites applications from Indian nationals possessing excellent academic record and relevant work experience for the following posts on the Project entitled “Establishment of Centre of Excellence for National Centre for Microbial Resource” (NCMR) purely on temporary basis till the end of the project i.e. up to September 30, 2023.

Post Serial No. 1 ; Consultant
No of post : 01
Essential Qualification & Experience :
Professional having a Ph.D. degree in relevant subject and minimum post qualification experience of 20 years in the requisite field. They should have high competency and established peer reputation. Retired Government employees with (i) Grade pay of Rs. 10,000/- & above & (ii) at least 25 years’ experience in the required domain field would also be eligible for this position. Desirable:
1) Minimum 10 years’ experience in microbial ecology and taxonomy
2) Should be aware of latest developments in bacterial and fungal taxonomy
3) Experience of working in the management & administration of culture collection activities
Upper Age Limit  : 63 Years
Scale of Pay / Consolidated Pay : Rs.50,000/- to Rs. 1,00,000/- depending upon educational qualification & experience

1st Class or equivalent in M.Tech / M. D./ M. V. Sc / M. Pharm OR M. Sc. with Ph.D. with original work as evidenced by patents or publications. Evidence of leadership with 9 years experience in R&D OR Ph.D. with at least five years research experience in the relevant subject.

Essential Qualification & Experience:
1st Class or equivalent in M. Tech/M. D./ M. V. Sc / M. Pharm / M. Sc. with 5 years’ experience OR Ph.D. with original work as evidenced by patents or publications. Evidence of leadership with about 4 years’ experience in R&D.

Post Serial No. 4 : Scientist ‘B’
No of post : 02 ; SC (01), EWS (01)
Essential Qualification & Experience :
1st Class in M.Sc./ M.Tech / M. D./ M. V. Sc / M.Pharm with 3 years’ experience in R&D or Ph.D. in relevant field with 1 year post-doctoral experience.
Upper Age Limit : 35 Years
Scale of Pay / Consolidated Pay : PB-3 Rs. 15600-39100 + 5400/- Grade Pay


Desirable experience for post serial numbers 2,3 & 4 :
1) Extensive experience in microbial ecology and taxonomy as evidenced by publications.
2) Work experience in handling, maintenance and preservation of microbial culture.
3) Work experience in microbial ecology and familiarity with SOPs involved in large scale handling and storage of cultures.
4) Work experience in either of the following domain i) Cultivation and long term preservation of anaerobes ii) MALDI TOF based microbial identification iii) Experience of handling various sequencing platforms, iv) Bioinformatics (analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, website and database management) v) Fungal Taxonomy (Sanger sequencing experience is plus) and vi) Cultivation, preservation and taxonomy of cyanobacteria.

Post Serial No. 5 : Technician ‘C’ (Lab)
Essential Qualification & Experience :
M. Sc. with 2 years of relevant experience in R&D organizations. Candidate should have minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in qualifying examinations.
Desirable:
In one or more of the following:
1) Handling, maintenance and preservation of microbial cultures.
2) Hands on experience in one or more techniques in microbial identification and characterisation including but not limited to Sanger/NGS sequencing, MALDI, FAME, BIOLOG, VITEK, lipid chromatography etc.
3) Experience in working with NGS data analysis especially in microbial genomics and metagenomics.

Upper Age Limit : 30 Years
Scale of Pay / Consolidated Pay : Rs. 53,000/- pm with 5% increase per annum

B. Sc. with three years’ R&D experience in the required area. Candidate should have 60% marks in aggregate in qualifying examination.
Desirable:
In one or more of the following:
1) Handling, maintenance and preservation of microbial cultures.
2) Hands on experience in one or more techniques in microbial identification and characterisation including but not limited to Sanger/NGS sequencing, MALDI, FAME, BIOLOG, VITEK, lipid chromatography etc.

Post Serial No. 7 : Technician ‘B’ (Computer)
Essentia] Qualification & Experience :
Graduate in Computer Sciences and having good typing speed. Three years of experience in handling software and data entry operations.
Desirable :
1) Candidate having experience in handling the biotechnology / biology related applications would be preferred.
2) Hands on trouble shooting, hardware, networking and database management.
3) Managing all online activities of NCMR project.
4) Candidate should have fair knowledge of handling latest version of Windows OS and Microsoft Office Apps.

2) Applications received after the due date/due to postal delay will not be considered. The application which is incomplete, without documents and/or not in the prescribed format will be strictly rejected. Candidates are required to fill up all the information in the columns of the prescribed format. Strike out whichever is not applicable. 7) Experience mentioned should have gathered after the acquisition of the essential qualifications.
8) Reservations as per the Government of India norms in respect of SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS etc. will be followed.
9) Candidates can apply for a maximum of three posts. If candidate is applying for more than one post, the application should be made separate for each post.
10) Age relaxation of 5 years in case of SC/ST candidates, and 3 years in case of OBC candidates will be given as per Government of India order in force, only in those cases where the post are reserved for respective categories, on production of relevant caste/category certificate in prescribed government of India (GOI) format signed by the specified authority. The candidate should compulsorily attach the caste certificate and prescribed certificate valid for employment under central government along with application, failing which their application will rejected. In addition, OBC candidates must also produce valid non-creamy layer certificate in the prescribed format for claiming the reservation benefits. Physically handicapped (Divyangs) candidates shall get relaxation in age as per DoPT OM No. 15012/2/2010-Estt. (D) dated 27.03.2012.

11) Age limits shall be reckoned as on the closing date for receipt of application.
12) As per DoPT O.M. No. 36039/1/2019-Estt.(Res.) dated 31st Jan 2019, the benefit of reservation under Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority as per the format prescribed by the Govt, of India. Candidates who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SC/ST/OBC (NCL) and whose family has gross annual income below Rs 8.00 Lakh (Rupees eight lakh only) are to be identified as EWS for benefit of reservation for EWS. The income shall also include income from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession etc. for the financial year prior to the year of application.
• The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the following authorities shall only be accepted as candidate’s claim as belonging to EWS:
a) District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / Deputy Commissioner / Additional Deputy Commissioner / 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate / Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Taluka Magistrate / Executive Magistrate / Extra Assistant Commissioner.
b) Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate.
c) Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and
d) Sub-Divisional Officer or the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.
• The EWS candidates are advised to note that in case of appointment, the same is provisional and is subject to the Income and asset certificate being verified through the proper channels and if the verification reveals that the claim to belong to EWS is fake/false the services will be terminated without assigning any further reasons and without prejudice to such further action as may be taken under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code for production of fake/false certificate.
• The appointing authority will verify the veracity of the Income and asset certificate submitted by the candidate through the certificate issuing authority.
13) The prescribed educational qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for the interview. The Centre reserves the right to call for the interview only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
14) Where number of applications received in response to this advertisement is large & it will not be convenient or possible to interview all the candidates, based on the recommendations of duly constituted screening committee, the project investigator may restrict the number of candidates to be called for the interview to a reasonable limit after taking into consideration of qualifications and desirable experience over and above the minimum prescribed, in the advertisement. Therefore, it will be in the interest of the candidates, to mention all the qualifications and experience in the relevant field at the time of applying. Decision of the Director, NCCS in this regard will be final and no interim enquiries/correspondence/communication of any sort will be entertained on this matter.
15) The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time period on the project. The position will automatically co-terminus on the completion of the project tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS/NCMR, Pune.
16) Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as disqualification for the post.
17) The posts advertised shall be need based without any commitment for its filling.
18) Candidates working in Government Departments/Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous Bodies should produce No objection certificate from their employer with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within one month of receipt of appointment order, if selected.
19) No TA will be paid to applicants for attending the interview.
20) Selected candidates will have to join duty immediately on receipt of offer of appointment letter.
