The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.

Consolidated Compensation:
i)JRF: UptoRs. 25,000/- p.m(depending upon qualification & experience)

Qualifications & Experience
i) JRF: B.Tech/M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering /Biochemical Engineering/ Biotechnology / Environmental Engineering, or M.Tech./M.Sc. in Microbiology/ Botany/ Molecular Biology/ Agriculture/ Environment Science/ Biochemistry/ Chemistry. B.Tech/ M.Sc. candidates must have valid NET / GATE score. Candidates having practical knowledge on handling Cyanobacteria and algal culture, and bioreactors / Molecular Biology / Microbial processes / Modelling and Simulation will also get preference.
ii) PM: The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in biological sciences/engineering/biotechnology with experience in patent handling and project management. The selected candidate would be coordinating with the team leaders and other scientists in managing the project, compiling the intellectual properties (IPs) and interacting with relevant industries for exploiting the IPs. The candidate must have good English communication skills, both written and oral.
iii) PA: B.Tech. in Biochemical Engineering /Chemical Engineering /Biotechnology, or, M.Sc./B.Sc. in Microbiology/Biochemistry. Graduate in any discipline may also apply if they have hands-on training/ skill in Microbiology/Biotechnology wet labs and DNA-related work for at least five years. Candidates must have basic knowledge of computers.
