  • “The National Medical Commission Act 2019 passed by both Houses of Parliament is historic and path-breaking. It is a huge and visionary reform in the medical education sector by the NDA Government under the leadership of our visionary Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, and will prove to be a milestone in the years to come”. This was stated here today by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare while addressing media persons on the NMC Act 2019. The Union Health Minister further said that “I am extremely grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister under whose strong leadership the National Medical Commission Act has finally seen the light of the day”.

  • Pharmaceutical Companies which introduced 22 drugs without prior approval of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) have been issued notices by Government. The NPPA regularly takes action against such companies as per provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 (DPCO) which has been issued under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

  • The National Health Policy 2017 had defined the vision of ‘health and wellbeing for all at all ages’. Continuum of Care is a concept strongly advocated by the Policy. These lofty ideals are sought to be achieved by refactoring the existing schemes and introducing several new schemes including some digital initiatives.

  • Patients saved more than 12000 crores after Price Fixation by Government

    As per government report, patients have saved Rs. 12,447 crores after Price Fixation of Essential Medicines by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). NPPA is an independent Regulator for pricing of drugs and to ensure availability and accessibility of medicines at affordable prices.

  • The Competition Commission of India (‘Commission’) has found Madhya Pradesh Chemists and Druggist Association (‘MPCDA’), Indore Chemists Association (‘ICA’), Himalaya Drug Company (‘HDC’) and Intas Pharmaceuticals Limited (‘IPL’) along with some of their office bearers/officials to be in contravention of the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 (‘Act’).

  • IMA strongly opposes move by PCI to use Dr prefix for Pharm.D

    Pharmacy Council of India has reportedly directed universities to use the prefix 'Doctor (Dr)' while awarding degrees to Pharm.D graduates. Indian Medical Association strongly opposes any move from those who are trained in other streams of Health sector to venture into medical practice.
