President of Gujarat state pharmacy council (GSPC), Mr. Montu Patel elected as member of Pharmacy council of India (PCI), Delhi. He became forth member from Gujarat to offer his services under PCI. Currently, Dr. NR Seth (Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University), Dr. CN Patel (Professor & Principal, Shri Sarvajanik Pharmacy College, Mehsana) and Dr. HG Koshia (Commissioner, Food & Drugs Control Administration, Gujarat) are working members of PCI.

Montu patel said to PharmaTutor that, “After joining as PCI member, he will continue to work for community pharmacists and extend their roles in healthcare system as well as society.”

He further said that his main focus is on number of diploma colleges and exit exams for diploma pharmacists. He ensured that there is a need of recognition of pharmacy profession in Indian society and Gujarat Pharmacy Council and PCI will work for it together.

He also said they will continue to oppose online pharmacy or epharmacy because it is degrading pharmacy profession and reducing need of Pharmacists in society which is dangerous for society. He further said that there should be prescription based model for recruitment of pharmacists under epharmacy which is already followed in western countries. They are opposing epharmacy not because they are working on online basis but they are more worried about their malpractices and violations of Drugs and Cosmetics act.

GSPC is also working hard for implementation of Pharmacy Practice Regulations 2015 (PPR 2015). Through PPR 2015, registered pharmacists can charge fees for patient counseling.
