ABSTRACT:
Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is the most popular fruit crop in the orient particularly in India, where it is considered as the best choice among all indigenous fruits. It occupies relatively the same position as that enjoyed by apple in temperate America or Europe. It ranks first among all the fruits of India in area and production.
Global production of mango is concentrated mainly in Asia and more precisely in India. Mango is grown in 85 countries, among which 63 countries produce more than 1000 metric tonnes in a year. In these countries, mango serves as an integral part in human life since it is not only a rich source of nutrients but also a common good shared in culture, life style and religion.

Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad is a premier R&D Institute in India. The Institute had its origin as the Central Laboratories for Scientific & Industrial Research (CLSIR), established in 1944 by the then Government of Hyderabad State. After integration of Hyderabad State with the Indian Union, the laboratory expanded with its growing activities. The main building was formally opened by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India on January 2, 1954.

Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, a constituent of CSIR is a leading research Institute in the area of chemical sciences. It was established as Central Laboratories for Scientific and Industrial Research (CLSIR) in the year 1944 by the Nizam State and after independence it was brought under the CSIR as Regional Research Laboratory. It was rechristened as CSIR- IICT in the year 1989 as it acquired a national character.

National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.
