National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is a national level institute in pharmaceutical sciences with a proclaimed objective of becoming a centre of excellence for advanced studies and research in pharmaceutical sciences.

The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has been established in 2009 along with other new Central Universities by an Act of Parliament (No 25, of 2009). The Government of India through an Act of Parliament (as per notification dated 26th June, 1998) established the first National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in the country at S.A.S Nagar (Mohali) as a Centre of Excellence for imparting higher education, research, and development in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Management. During the years 2007 and 2008, the Government of India established six more NIPERs.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at S.A.S Nagar (Mohali) created as a Centre of Excellence for imparting higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences and management is the first Institute of its kind in the country. The Institute was declared as an Institute of National Importance by Government of India through an Act of Parliament, notified on 26th June 1998. The Institute is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.
