  • Emotions experienced in everyday life can alter the hedonic experience of less-palatable food, implying a link to emotional eating, the study said.  Researchers at Cornell University have found that those who suffer defeat or are in negative emotional states tend to crave sweets more than those in a positive frame of mind. The research published in the journal Appetite focused on how a person's emotional state -- particularly in the competitive world of sports -- affects the perception of taste.

  • People suffering from psoriasis may soon benefit from a drug that offers greater efficacy than the current standard of care, revealed phase II human trial. Nine-month treatment with the new drug was found to clear skin in more than 80% of psoriasis-affected patients. The study is published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

  • Some of the world’s most popular foods and seasonings can also be the smelliest — think garlic, onions, certain cheeses and the notoriously stinky Asian durian fruit. No amount of plastic wrap seems to contain their stench, but now scientists have developed a new film that could finally neutralize the odors of even the most pungent fare. The report is published in the journal ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces.

  • Researchers at City of Hope developed new therapy  for Patients with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer known as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma that uses Salmonella bacterium that can help extend the survival of patients. The study is published in the Journal Cancer Immunology Research from the American Association for Cancer Research.

  • A protein named after the famous Hollywood movie Rambo which was earlier thought to be causing death can in fact protect against heart failure, according to research from King’s College London. New research has identified a protein which could protect against heart failure, pointing the way to possible new treatments. The study was published in the journal Nature Communications.

  • Scientists have developed a novel technique to make production of biodegradable plastic cheaper and greener. The findings could help make the biodegradable plastic known as polylactic acid (PLA) a full-fledged alternative to cheaper traditional petroleum-based plastics. PLA is not yet considered a full alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics, as it is costly to produce.
