Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 (Act. No. XIII). It was  established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous statutory Authority set up under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

Government of India has set up six new National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) under the aegis of Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Pharmaceuticals, at Rae Bareli, Hajipur, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr.
