API DIVISION : R&D DEPARTMENT

In 1870 the Maharaja of Vijanagaram first floated the idea of starting a Medical College in Lucknow. But the idea was watered down due to paucity of funds. In 1905 the visit of King-Emperor, George V, then Prince of Wales, inspired the idea of establishing a college to commemorate the occasion. The originator of this fine ideal to commemorate the occasion was late Raja Sir Tassadnq Rasul Khan of Jehangirabad to whom Sir Harcourt Butler wrote on 1st December 1905.

The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. National Centre for Nanosciences and Nanotechnology, University of Mumbai (NCNNUM) has undertaken R&D and Training Programmes to meet some of the challenges of nanotechnology development. University of Mumbai will focus on a) R&D in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology leading to industry-ready technology and b) Development of human resources to implement the technology.

The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage.
