Retired Armed Forces personnel till 2002 could avail medical facilities only for specific high cost surgery/treatment for a limited number of diseases covered under the Army Group Insurance(Medical Branch Scheme) (AGI(MBS)) and Armed Forces Group Insurance Scheme(Management Information System) (AFGIS (MIS)) schemes. These medicare schemes could provide some relief to the ESM, but it was not a comprehensive scheme as compared to and available for other Central Government Employees.

General Services Organization, (GSO) Kalpakkam is one of the Constituent Units of Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, situated 80 Kms. south of Chennai on the coast of Bay of Bengal off the East Coast Road. GSO takes care of the common facilities such as Housing, Medical, Transport, Water Supply, Civil and Electrical maintenance in the Department of Atomic Energy Townships at Kalpakkam and Anupuram for the DAE and its constituent Units located at Kalpakkam.

ICMR- Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC), established at Pondicherry (now Puducherry) in July 1975, is one of the permanent institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Department of Health Research, Government of India. VCRC has been engaged in basic and applied research with the primary objective of finding newer methods and developing strategies of vector control for the control of vector borne diseases.

Central Medical Services Society has been established with the approval of Cabinet on 24.08.2011 as a Central Procurement Agency to streamline drug procurement and distribution system of Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and to eliminate existing deficiencies.
