Bharathidasan Institute of Technology (BIT) has been established as a Technical Institute under Anna University, Chennai by the Government of Tamil Nadu and recently sponsored with Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) grant. It offers a variety of UG, PG and research programmes with an approximate of 3000 students in the campus. The objective of the workshop is to give the participants an insight into the world of cancer drug discovery. The intensive sessions will be a perfect blend of theory and practical classes. Apart from the basics of cell culture and cancer biology, the participants will get to know the various marker genes associated with cancer. Gene expression studies with a focus on RT-PCR will be discussed and hands on sessions will ensure that the participants will make the most out of the workshop.

Retired Armed Forces personnel till 2002 could avail medical facilities only for specific high cost surgery/treatment for a limited number of diseases covered under the Army Group Insurance(Medical Branch Scheme) (AGI(MBS)) and Armed Forces Group Insurance Scheme(Management Information System) (AFGIS (MIS)) schemes. These medicare schemes could provide some relief to the ESM, but it was not a comprehensive scheme as compared to and available for other Central Government Employees.
