Gujarat State Pharmacy Council and IPC Launch Dedicated Pharmacovigilance & Medicine Safety Portal

The Gujarat State Pharmacy Council (GSPC) has partnered with the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) to launch a dedicated "Pharmacovigilance & Medicine Safety" to strengthen medicine safety awareness and promote adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting

The newly launched online section has been developed to improve awareness of pharmacovigilance among pharmacists, healthcare professionals, pharmacy students and the general public. The initiative is aligned with the objectives of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), which works to enhance patient safety by monitoring the safety of medicines and encouraging timely reporting of suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs).

According to the announcement, the new portal will serve as a comprehensive resource for medicine safety information. It provides access to the National Formulary of India (NFI) purchase link, the latest drug safety alerts issued under PvPI, an ADR Monitoring System (ADRMS) QR code for quick reporting, a directory of Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centres (AMCs) across Gujarat, and ADR reporting forms for both healthcare professionals and consumers in Hindi and other regional languages.

GSPC has urged all registered pharmacists, pharmacy institutions, healthcare professionals and pharmacy students to actively use the platform, remain informed about the latest medicine safety updates, and contribute to strengthening India's pharmacovigilance system through regular ADR reporting.

The Council also appealed to pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to play a proactive role in promoting the rational use of medicines and to report suspected adverse drug reactions whenever they are observed. The initiative is expected to improve medicine safety awareness, encourage responsible reporting practices, and support better public health outcomes through stronger pharmacovigilance.

The announcement was issued by Mr. Bharatbhai Patel, President, Gujarat State Pharmacy Council, and Mr. G. C. Macwan, Additional Registrar, Gujarat State Pharmacy Council, highlighting the Council's continued commitment to advancing patient safety and fostering a culture of pharmacovigilance in the state.
