The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has directed 15 medical device companies manufacturing and importing primary and revision knee system to furnish price data.

The companies are Biomet Orthopaedic India Pvt Ltd, Zimmer India Pvt Ltd, Johnson & Johnson Pvt ltd, Inor Medical Products Ltd, Biorad Medisys Pvt Ltd, B Braun Medical India Pvt Ltd, Meril Life Sciences India Pvt Ltd, Adler Mediequip Pvt Ltd, Smith & Nephew Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Smit Medimed Pvt Ltd, Djo Global India Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Stryker India Pvt Ltd, Dalvi & Sons, Waldemar Link India Private Ltd and Euro Medi Tools Pvt Ltd.

A format has also been released by the NPPA asking for details from these companies. It is requested that the data both in hard and soft copies may be sent to NPPA latest by 30th July. 2018.

The fixation of the ceiling prices of orthopedic implants helps to prevent unethical profiteering and ensure affordable and quality healthcare for the common man.
The NPPA had fixed the price for primary knee replacement of titanium alloy at Rs 38,740 while the price for revision knee replacement of any material was pegged at Rs 62,770. The price of  Hi-Flex primary knee replacement has been fixed at Rs 25,860 and that of cobalt chromium alloy at Rs 24,090.
