The University was established under the provisions of Uttar Pardesh State Universities Act (Act No. 10 of 1973) on 1.12.1973 and the Act come in force w.e.f. 1.12.1973. The name of the university was rechristened to Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in 1989 in commemoration of the memory of a leading statesman of the country, the son of the soil Shri Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, and subsequently established as Central University under the provision of the Central Universities Ordinance, 2009, No.3 of 2009 published in the gazette of India, extraordinary Part-II, Sec-I, New Delhi, 15 January 2009. Our University is among the ten largest Universities of the country with 3 campuses and more than 180 affiliated colleges and institutes (both state run/aided and self financed) and examining approximately 150000 students annually, providing higher education services in 7 out of the 13 Districts of the State of Uttarakhand.

Applications in the prescribed form through ON-LINE are invited from the eligible candidates for the following posts shown against the subjects/deptts. to be filled up on direct recruitment basis. Those applicants, who have applied against our Advt. No. HNBGU/Recruitment-01 and 02/2015 (ROLLING) dated 19th February, 2015 are also required to apply again, however they are exempted from paying application fee. The University reserves right to call persons, eminent in their field for interview, for the posts of Professors even though they do not apply for advertised posts. The applications received up to 15th January 2017 will be considered for this round of interview. The application received after 15th January 2017 will be considered for the next round of recruitment process for the remaining vacant posts.

Applications are invited for the recruitment of various positions on contractual basis with consolidated pay under two DBT sponsored projects entitled, (1) “Chemical profiling of Joha and black rice of Assam for nutritional, nutraceutical parameters and aroma compounds” and (2) “Microbial roles in yield management of scented rice of North East India” at Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) Garchuk, Guwahati (Assam). Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), an institution of education, training and research is established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the auspices of UNESCO. The Centre will focus on cooperatively working towards shared biotechnology growth in the Asia-Pacific Region. Regional interactions in biotechnology will promote co-operation amongst the countries to develop necessary infrastructure and capacity building for economic benefit of our societies. The Centre would be beneficial in developing knowledge rich, highly skilled human resource to all countries in the region. RCB will be part of the Biotech Science Cluster (BSC) and will operate in synergy with the other institutions in the Cluster.
