Job Description:
Leads team of five individuals responsible for product packaging development & design for existing and new products. Responsible for designing product packaging and specifications to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping, distribution and retail shelf conditions. Collaborates with Sales & Marketing on new design, customized artwork/label copy and ongoing modifications to OTC packaging. Works with Packaging Operations, External Vendors, Purchasing and QA to resolve irregularities and improve packaging materials performance. Participates in vendor visits and audits as required. Selects, tests and analyzes and materials for packaging based on durability, equivalency and cost effectiveness. Responsible for developing and maintaining graphic design capability to support OTC private label customer requirements. Manages customer artwork/label copy approval process through Sales, Customers and internal groups. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Areas of Responsibility:
• New Product Development: Evaluates and develops new packaging systems and modifications to support customer requirements. Provides new and innovative designs and concepts as required.
• Packaging, Labeling and Components: Evaluates and maintains all material specifications for product components, per ANDA and other guidelines, required for packaging of Dr. Reddy’s product at approved co-packagers. Creates and maintains Master Item and Customer Item packaging specifications. Assists in the authoring SOP’s and work instructions.
• Engineering Resource: Provides through evaluation of Co-packagers equipment to ensure Contract Packaging Capabilities. Monitors journals, processes, and packaging designs in order to provide technical information to all relevant departments in the company. Participates in vendor visits to monitor their programs when packaging activities are taking place.
• Problem Investigation: Evaluates technical investigations of complaint reports, component defects, and quality issues. This will include packaging, component, and vendor issues. Partners with QA, RA, Contract Vendors, Materials Management/Supply Chain and Distribution to resolve any quality issues quickly and effectively.
• Packaging Improvement/Optimization: Seeks/evaluates opportunities to improve packaging line performance. Recommends changes to equipment, materials, components, set-up procedures, etc. to optimize and reduce packaging costs. Optimizes packaging components, specifications, and part numbers.
• Value Engineering: Identifies and investigates opportunities to increase profit margin and quality, or reduce environmental impact through improved material specifications or conformance. This will be accomplished by conducting studies, analyzing products, and coordinating internal or outside technical resources. Quarterly review and monitor cost savings of related projects.
• Customized Packaging: Oversee customer-specific artwork creation and coordination – cartons, labels, inserts, Drug Facts, PDQ’s and displays in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements. Interface with customers and graphics design/printed components vendors on packaging and artwork requirements.
• Graphic Design: Overall responsibility for the design and creation of graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs such as packaging, displays, logos and mockups using a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or decorative effects.

Candidate Profile:
• BS in Packaging Science, Material Science, or a related Engineering degree with equivalent packaging experience is required 
• 5 or more years of packaging experience in consumer products industries
• Ability to logically design and execute analysis and resolve complex business issues
• Ability to identify, rigorously analyze, and solve operating/packaging issues
• Ability to convert both qualitative and quantitative information into action plans, and see solution to -resolution/completion
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent Value Engineering skills
• Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, TOPS and CAPE
• Professional packaging certification or designation (i.e. IoPP certification) is a plus
