National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) has been established by the Department of Biotechnology in the 'Knowledge City' at Mohali, Punjab. The institute nurtures expertise and skills to develop designer plants, future foods, and bioprocesses for societal good and competitiveness of agri-food enterprise. During the last one year of its establishment, NABI has developed a state-of-art capability in high throughput genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Infrastructure available or in progress includes Sequenome, Sequencers, genotypers, Affy-array, Laser Capture Microscope, LA-ICP-MS, HPTLC, MALDI-TOF/TOF, LC-MS, FT-IR, UPLC, nano-LC, Triple-TOF, Q-Trap, controlled environment chambers etc.

NABI plans to now expand its team, in the area of nutritional science, functional foods, nanoscience applications, food microbiology and bioinformatics. We invite applications from exceptionally talented scientists for positions at different levels of seniority, suitable to their experience and excellence, as shown in the table below.

Areas of specialisation
Scientists with innovation and drive in the following areas of expertise only are invited to apply. In case of team workers and colleagues with complementary expertise, a special request can be considered for their recruitment as a team to synergise their performance.

10. Biomarkers for nutritional interventions

12. Traditional foods and ethnobotanical sources for medicinal and  health applications
13. Prebiotics and probiotics
14. Food safety and standards
15. Bio statistical and bioinformatic applications in biotech research.
16. Machine learning for designing tools for biotechnological research.

Selection Process: The applications and nominations will be received against the advertised positions. Suitably constituted Screening Committees will screen the applications on the basis of recommendation letters, qualifications and experience. The applicants identified as sufficiently promising will be examined in further details by suitable selection committees. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for interactions at the institute and for discussions with suitably constituted Selection Committees. The successful applicants will be invited to join.

General Conditions for Recruitment:
1. The date for determining the age limit/experience/qualification shall be on the last date for receiving applications at NABI.
2. The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC candidates, as per Govt. of India norms.
3. In addition to the usual pay & allowances as admissible vide 6th Pay Commission in the above scales, other benefits such as Leave Travel Concession, Medical expenses, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, Telephone Expenses etc. are also available as per rules.
4. The Institute encourages creation of knowledge and benefit sharing related to IPR.
5. Candidates will be governed by New Pension Scheme of Central Government effective from 01-01-2004.
6. Appointment will be made initially on contract in project mode for a period of 5 years with an initial probation period of one year which may be extended/curtailed at the discretion of the Competent Authority. Further continuation, if any will depend on candidate's performance during the initial period of five years.
7. Candidates may choose to apply for more than one post by submitting separate application for each position. Depending upon suitability of the candidate, a higher or lower post may be offered by the Selection Committee.
8. Application must be complete in all respects and as per the institutional format. In case of employed applicants, the application must be forwarded through proper channel.
9. All applications must be supported by attested certificates, photograph, address including telephone, e-mail, qualifications, experience, status of reservations, analysis of research publications with respect to Impact Factor, Citations & h-Factor, include a 1000 word statement on the research area of interest and its relevance to NABI and at least three confidential letters of recommendation.
10. Mere fulfilment of essential qualifications and experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview since the positions are for creative high quality research in areas of relevance to NABI. Candidate's experience and proven ability for research and team building in target area are most critical to the selection procedure. In this respect, at least three confidential letters of reference addressed by email directly to the Executive Director (edoffice@nabi.res.in) should be arranged. These should comment upon:
I. Candidate's suitability for path breaking research & innovative thinking.
II. Ability to function independently as well as in teams.
III. Execute state of art experiments and research programs of fundamental and/or applied nature.
11. Nominations by distinguished experts may be considered, depending upon merit and the area of expertise.
12. In case of candidates employed in permanent posts, request for deputation and salary protection will be considered.
13. Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
14. In case a large number of applications are received, screening will be done to limit the number of candidates to those possessing higher qualification or experience and, if required, a written examination may additionally be conducted for further screening.
15. Outstation candidates called for interview will be paid to and fro second class railway fare, as per Government rules on presentation of the proof.

Application(s) completed in all respects, in the prescribed form accompanied by attested copies of certificates, testimonials in support of age, educational qualifications, experience etc., along with non-refundable application fee of Rs.100/- (US$25 in case of candidates applying from abroad) for general and OBC category candidates (No application fee for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/PWDs candidates), by means of DD (issued by State Bank of India only except for the candidates applying from abroad) valid for at least 6 months, drawn in favour of "The Executive Director, National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali" payable at Phase-1 Br., Mohali, should be sent to the Executive Director National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, C-127, Phase-VIII, Industrial Area, SAS Nagar, Mohali, Punjab-160071 (India).

Synopsis-sheet to be submitted by email: In addition to submitting the hard copy of application form, the candidate is also required to fill up his particulars in the synopsis-sheet available on NABI website, in MS-WORD or EXCEL format (NOT ON PDF FORMAT), and email to 'synopsis2011@nabi.res.in' as attachment. This is MOST-URGENT.

Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate. The decision of NABI in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of application, mode of selection, and conduct of interviews will be final and binding on the candidates. In exceptionally meritorious cases, the eligibility requirement may be relaxed by the competent authority.
