The Kurukshetra University was established in 1956 as a unitary residential University and its foundation stone was laid by late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. Located in the holy city of Kurukshetra, land of the historical battle of 'Mahabharata' and the great message of Bhagwad Gita, its campus is situated on the western bank of Brahm Sarover (the holy tank) and extends over an area of over 400 acres. Starting with only the Department of Sanskrit, it has grown into a multi-faculty University as one of the premier centres for advanced study and research in the region.

Raja Bahadur Venkat Rama Reddy was born on August 22, 1869, in a middle class family at Rayanpet in Wanaparthy. He lost his parents early in his childhood and was brought up by his uncle, William Wahab, who had a great influence on him. He had great passion for education which made him pursue further studies, in spite of opposition from his relatives. At the age of 18, Venkat Rama Reddy entered the police service of the erstwhile Hyderabad State and rose to the position of Police Commissioner of Hyderabad City, the first Hindu to do so. The Nizam of Hyderabad honored Sri Venkat Rama Reddy with the title of “Raja Bahadur” in recognition of his services to the state.

To trace the history of Jadavpur University is to trace a part of India’s freedom movement, at least from the Swadeshi Movement onwards. It was 1905 -1906. Bengal stood divided. The times were feverish.
The hegemony of the British establishment had to be challenged. Education had to play a new role in this changed scenario. It had to become a new form of resistance through which the emergent nationalist spirit could be propagated. With this in mind the National Council of Education (NCE) came into being.

Soranus was a Greek physician from Ephesus in 1st and 2nd century. He practiced in Alexandria and subsequently in Rome, and was one of the chief representatives of the Methodic school of medicine. Several of his writings still survive most notably his four-volume treatise on gynaecology and a Latin translation of his on acute and chronic diseases. He belonged to the Methodic School and was one of the most eminent physicians of that school. Little else is known about his life, except that he passed some time in Aquitania for the purpose of treating some skin diseases which were very prevalent there at the time. His treatise Gynaecology is extant also extant are parts of treatises on Signs of Fractures and on Bandages. Of his most important work (On Acute and Chronic Diseases) only a few fragments in Greek remain, but we possess a complete Latin translation by Caelius Aurelianus (5th century). Besides these works, Soranus was the author of sever al others, of which only the titles and some fragments have been preserved. Soranus himself refers to many additional works which have not survived. Gynecology contains many remarkable contributions that might have been written today. Acharya P C Ray took a rented house at 91 Upper Circular Road, Calcutta and started business with a meager capital of Rs 700.00. Since inception of the Company he was very much quality conscious and produced various products of British Pharmacopoeia standard. Eminent Doctors with nationalistic feeling like Dr R G Kar, Dr N R Sarkar, Dr S P Sarbadhikari, Dr Amulya Charan Bose, etc. came forward and patronized the products.
