Post : Immunology and Translational Pharmacology - Drug Discovery
About the Role
Alembic Drug Discovery is seeking an experienced and high-performing Immunologist & In Vivo Strategist to drive target identification and translational pharmacology efforts across oncology, immunology, inflammation, and other disease areas. This is a high-ownership, hands-on leadership role combining assay excellence, CRO management, cross-functional collaboration, and team capability development within drug discovery. We are looking for a proactive, highly collaborative go-getter who thrives in fast-paced discovery environments.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to discovery programs in India while actively bridging into the U.S. biotech ecosystem, collaborating with global scientific partners to help deliver transformational medicines. In this position, you will not only make a meaningful scientific contribution but also grow as a drug discovery scientist, gaining broad exposure to multidisciplinary research and direct involvement in advancing innovative therapeutic ideas.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide scientific oversight of CRO-executed in vivo pharmacology studies, ensuring rigor, reproducibility, data integrity, and on-time delivery.
• Serve as Discovery Project Leader, defining program strategy and advancing assets from target validation through preclinical candidate nomination and IND-enabling activities.
• Design and author study protocols establishing efficacy, mechanistic, and translational endpoints aligned with stage-gate decisions.
• Develop integrated translational strategies and PK/PD frameworks linking exposure, target engagement, pathway modulation, biomarkers, and efficacy.
• Integrate in vitro pharmacology, DMPK, and in vivo data to guide compound optimization and progression.
• Design, optimize, and interpret ≥15-color flow cytometry panels for deep immune phenotyping and mechanistic analysis.
• Lead complex immune functional assays across lymphoid and myeloid systems in mouse and NHP models.
• Partner cross-functionally with Assay Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, DMPK, and Toxicology to drive data-based decisions.
• Analyze and present complex datasets to cross-functional teams and senior leadership, delivering clear scientific recommendations.
• Mentor Research Associates and uphold high standards for experimental execution, documentation, and ELN practices.
• Apply emerging advances in translational and clinical immunology to strengthen program strategy and competitiveness.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Ph.D. in Immunology, Immuno-oncology, Pharmacology, or related field with 10+ years of industry experience; OR M.Sc. with 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Extensive experience isolating and working with PBMCs and primary immune cells from whole blood and leukopaks.
• Deep expertise in designing and executing immune cell–based assays across human, mouse, and NHP systems, including cytotoxicity, proliferation, innate activation, AICD, NK and T cell killing, macrophage polarization, and complex lymphoid–myeloid co-cultures.
• Advanced proficiency in high-parameter flow cytometry (≥15-color panel design and multiparametric analysis required) and familiarity with CyTOF.
• Strong background in immune functional assays, including qPCR, NanoString gene expression analysis, cytokine/chemokine quantification, ELISA, ELISpot, and IHC.
• Solid understanding of PK/PD principles and biomarker integration in discovery-stage decision- making.
• Proven experience leading CRO-based in vivo pharmacology programs.
• Demonstrated project leadership in discovery settings, with the ability to independently drive experimental strategy and execution.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
• Broad modality awareness (small molecules, peptides, biologics), with preference for experience in small molecule (NCE) discovery.
