National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for the Bio fortification, development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions towards quality food and nutrition, and development of evidence based functional foods to counter malnutrition. Food and nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires following research personnel purely on temporary basis.

Research Associate-I (NABI Core Grant)
No. of Position:- One
Project : Towards improving abiotic stress tolerance in crop plants.
Principal Investigator : Prof. Ashwani Pareek, Executive Director.
Duration : The appointment will be initially for a period of one year. Further extension from 1st Year to 2nd Year will be subject to submission of progress report submitted by selected candidate and satisfactory assessment remarks given by the reporting officer. It will not exceed beyond two years from date of joining.
Essential Qualification : PhD/ MD/ MS/ MDS or equivalent degree or having three years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/ M.Pharma/ ME/ M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
Desirable : Working knowledge with molecular biology, especially in genome editing tools with good research publications in reputed journals. Knowledge in crop breeding tools will also be appreciated.
Emoluments : The RA-I will be hired as per the emoluments’ guidelines and service conditions notified by DST (OM No.SR/S9/Z-08/2018 dated 30.01.2019) (Rs. 47,000/month + HRA)
Age Limit : The age limit of applicants for RA will be 40 years. (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/women/physically disabled as per government of India instructions).

Junior Research Fellow (Own Fellowship) (One Position)
Principle Investigator : Dr. Prafull Salvi, Inspire Faculty, DST
Essential qualifications: - Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate /Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:-. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc. Scholars who have their own fellowship from funding agencies like CSIR, UGC and DBT etc
Emoluments : - As per fellowship granting agency.
Responsibilities : JRF will work on the development of rice transgenics plant and explore the transcriptional regulation/gene regulatory network associated with grain quality and (a)biotic stress responses in rice.
Age limit:- 28 Years as on date of interview. (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/PD as per GOI Instruction.

Project Fellow-I
Name of project:- “Gene editing for addressing rancidity in rice bran for enhanced shelf-life”)
Principle Investigator:- Dr. Rupam Kumar Bhunia, Inspire faculty
Duration:- The appointment is co-terminus with the project along with availability of funds. It will not exceed beyond project.
Essential qualification:- M.Sc in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Life Sciences or B. Tech in Biochemistry/Biotechnology with minimum 55% marks.
Desired Experience : Research experience in plant molecular biology & plant tissue culture.
Emoluments:- Rs.12000/- per month plus HRA as applicable in Mohali.

Junior Research Fellow (Own Fellowship) (One Position)
Principle Investigator: Dr. Ajay K Pandey, Scientist F
Essential qualifications: - Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate /Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:-. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc. Scholars who have their own fellowship from funding agencies like CSIR, UGC and DBT etc
Emoluments: - As per fellowship granting agency.
Responsibilities : Addressing basic plat biology questions relevant to Fe homeostasis in plants. The candidate with strong interest in bioinformatics: transcriptome data analysis and gene function validation are highly encouraged. The selected candidate will be encouraged for Ph.D program.
Age limit:- 28 Years as on date of interview. (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/PD as per GOI Instruction.

Junior Research Fellow
Name of project:-
“Elucidating role of plant Ferroportins in Fe homeostasis”
Project Investigator:- Dr. Ajay K Pandey, Scientist F
Duration:- Project is till 28.12.2023
Essential qualification:- Post graduate degree in Basic Science Or Graduate / Post Graduate in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:- a) Scholars are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE. b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT,DAE,DOS,DRDO,MHRD,ICAR,ICMR,IIT,IISc,IISER etc. Desired Experience : Experience in plant or agricultural biotechnology, plant tissue culture, genome editing, genomics/bioinformatics. Emoluments:- Rs.31000/- per month plus HRA for 1st & 2nd Year and from 3rd Year onwards Rs 35,000 per month plus HRA
Responsibilities:- Planning and executing of project in a time frame manner

Junior Research Fellow
Name of project:- “Novel enzymatic strategy for synthesizing human milk oligosaccharides for promoting health of infants”
Project Investigator:- Dr. Ravindra Pal Singh, Ramalingaswami Fellow, NABI
Duration:- Till 30.12.2023 or till termination of project whichever is earlier
Essential qualification:- Post graduate degree in Basic Science Or Graduate/Post Graduate in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:- b) Scholars are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE. b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT,DAE,DOS,DRDO,MHRD,ICAR,ICMR,IIT,IISc,IISER etc. Desired Experience : Experience with expression of protein in heterologous system and purification of protein and carbohydrates. Emoluments:- Rs.31000/- per month plus 8% HRA for 1st & 2nd Year and from 3rd Year onwards Rs 35,000 per month plus 8% HRA Responsibilities:- Cloning and production of enzymes, enzymatic synthesis of human milk oligosaccharide library and their chemical characterization.

Application and Selection Process:-
1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali- 140306, Punjab on 03.02.2021 at 09:00 AM along-with the duly filled application form available.
2. Incomplete application form and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected.
3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
4. Candidates applying for more than one position can give their preference in the same application by ticking multiple positions. No need to submit separate application form for each position.
5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered.
6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 03.02.2021.
7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
8. All the candidates are requested to appear for the interview with full CV, thesis/project report, experience certificates, publications and original degree certificates and transcripts.
9. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
10. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s).
11. Those candidates, who are unable to attend the interview in person due to Covid-19, may attend the interview through online mode.
