The Government of India proposes to fill up the post of Chairperson, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (Food Authority). The Food Authority was established as a Statutory body under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (No.34 of 2006) for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. The Chairperson of the Food Authority is to perform such duties and functions and exercise such powers as prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The Head Office of the Food Authority is in Delhi.
Post: Chairperson
Scale of pay: Rs. 80,000 per month (Fixed) plus allowances as per guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Eligibility: Applicants for selection to the office of Chairperson, Food Authority shall be persons of eminence in the field of Food Science or persons from the administration who have been associated with the subject and is either holding or has held the position of not below the rank of Secretary to the Govt, of India. Relevant work experience related to Central / State Regulatory Bodies would be a desirable qualification for the position.
Age limit and tenure: The Chairperson shall hold office for a term of three years from the date on which he / she enters upon the office and shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further period of three years or till he / she attains the age of 65 years whichever is earlier.
Other terms and Conditions of service: Other terms and conditions of service shall be such as may be prescribed by the Central Government from time to time.

The Government of India will have the discretion to consider the candidature of any person who has not applied in response to newspaper advertisement. The Government also reserves the right to reject any / or all applications received for the office of Chairperson without assigning any reason.
