In a major move to combat rising incidence of diabetes in the country, the government on Wednesday inked an agreement with a Hyderabad-based firm to develop medicine to control diabetes and a software to keep tab on diabetics and those vulnerable to the lifestyle disease.

The AYUSH healthcare system is the key to a healthy population, union minister Shripad Naik said on Friday."The goal of achieving a healthy population can be met through AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) system," the minister of state for AYUSH and health and family welfare said.

Union Health Minister J.P Nadda on Thursday said that the newly- inaugurated All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here should take steps towards research and explore new avenues of expanding tertiary healthcare delivery.
