  • India unveiled its indigenously developed and manufactured Rotavirus vaccine, claimed to be the world's cheapest at the rate of around Rs 60 per dose and aimed at boosting efforts to deal with diarrhoea that kills upto 80,000 children under 5 every year.

  • The Union Minister for health & Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda has termed the Budget 2015-2016 announced by the Finance Minister today as balanced, progressive, pragmatic and pro-people. He said that the budget will lead to all around social and economic development that is inclusive and outcome oriented. The Health Minister has thanked the Hon. Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for the balanced and people-oriented Budget.

  • The Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers Sh. Ananth Kumar has assured the Pharmaceutical Industry that appropriate decisions will be taken soon so that India becomes self-sufficient in the Bulk Drugs. At the launch ceremony of “2015 – Year of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients” the Government is committed to usher in reforms and good governance, and promote the concept of “Make in India”, said Ananth Kumar.

  • The Minister for Health & Family Welfare Shri J P Nadda launched the National Deworming initiative aimed to protect more than 24 crore children in the ages of 1-19 years from intestinal worms, on the eve of the National Deworming Day, at Jaipur. Also present at the function were Shri Rajendra Rathore, Health Minister, Rajasthan. They administered the deworming tablets to some school going children.

  • There is a need for innovation in the systems and practices in delivery of healthcare to enhance their effectiveness. There is an equal need for sharing of best practices between the various stakeholders in the health sector in order to benefit from the prevalent knowledge and experience in different quarters. Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda stated this at the Third Biennial International Conference and Advanced Live Laparoscopic Workshop- ENDOLAP 2014, organised by the Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, on 7th Feb.

  • A separate regulator for alternative medicine streams like Ayurveda, Siddha, Homeopathy and Unani is being planned by the government under a new health policy to be unveiled shortly. Minister of State for Health Shripad Yesso Naik said a Cabinet note is being finalised for new regulations of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) products under the new AYUSH health policy.

  • Focused academic research can go a long way in strengthening the health sector, and provide solutions to many challenges facing the country in providing accessible and affordable health care to all, particularly the needy and vulnerable. Similarly, IT can play a crucial role as an enabler to address several critical issues in the country’s health sector.
