(5th August, 2014); It is known that data related to antibiotics consumption is not maintained in India. And truly it is hard to obtain such data when everything is mess up around. But it is of utmost importance to capitalize such data to fight with microbial resistance. The concern is growing for antimicrobial resistance in pathogens on account of increased availability and use of antibiotics across the country meant for human, animal and industrial consumption.

(1st August, 2014); There are total 968 pharmacy degree institutions (as per section 12) in India as per government updated list of May 2014 with 65,415 seats. And government is working to improve the quality of pharmacy education in India.

(29th July, 2014); Looking at the current regulatory environment of clinical trial in India, it is important that all information related to 4 major domains i.e, Sponsor/ CRO, Investigator, Ethics Committee, Patient of clinical trials are captured through online in an organized manner. Hence, for ensuring transparency and faster dissemination of information about clinical trials, health ministry may start information technology (IT) enabled platform. The recommendation of such platform is provided by Prof. Ranjit Roy Chaudhary Committee.

(24th July, 2014); Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) announced in its notification that MS Programmes are not approved by the PCI either for the purpose of registration as a pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act to practice the profession OR any other purpose like teaching in approved pharmacy institutions.

(24th July, 2014); Health Ministry prohibits the manufacture, sale and distribution of fixed dose combination (FDC) of Flupenthixol and Melitracen for human use on recommendations of the Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB).

(14th July, 2014); NIPER, Hyderbad is all set to develop National Centre for Research & Development in Bulk Drug (NCRDBD) for filling up gap in Research and Development in bulk drugs. The over all project costs around more than 52 crore rupees and with an operating cost of over 37 crore rupees for five years.

(9th July, 2014); The meeting of the apex committee held on 17-06-2014 under the chairmanship secretary  of health and family welfare for supervising clinical trials (CTs) on new chemical entities in the light of directions of the honorable supreme court of India dated 03.01.2013

(8th July, 2014); Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister, has formed a core group to plan a detailed plan of action to eradicate the dreaded vector-borne disease Kala Azar by 2015.

(8th July, 2014); Health Ministry of India finalized that if any drug banned by two or more countries and it is still being marketed in India, they may possibly remove the drug from the Indian market after proper examination or appropriate action will be taken.

(3rd July, 2014); Four new vaccines are introduced as part of India’s Universal Immunization Programme (UIP), announced by Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. Vaccines against rotavirus, rubella and polio (injectable) will collectively expedite India’s progress on meeting the Millennium Development Goal 4 targets to reduce child mortality by two-thirds by the year 2015 and meet global polio eradication targets. In addition, an adult vaccine against Japanese encephalitis will be introduced in districts with high levels of the disease.
