  • The Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) has applauded Govt’s move that comes in the wake of Finance Ministry urging RBI to undertake an audit of all investments made in medical device sector over policy loopholes and confusion over definitional distinction between medical device and pharma sector leading to increased vulnerability of Indian pharma companies and no real gains for domestic medical device manufacturing.

  • India may have emerged as a key supplier of generic and affordable medicine  for the world market, its overwhelming dependence on China for a crucial raw material , known as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API)to the extent of over 65 percent of the requirement, has emerged as a main worrying area.

  • In line with the vision of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to eradicate Leprosy from India, Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare reviewed the National Leprosy Eradication Programme and pursuant to that, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched the biggest Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) in the country on 5th September 2016 across 149 districts of 19 states/UTs.

  • The Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs Sh. Ananth Kumar has said that Promotion and Regulation should go hand in hand for medical devices sector to provide affordable health care to the poor. Speaking at the 9th Medical Technology Conference in New Delhi today he said that regulation is required in the medical devices sector to check profit and money making so as to facilitate providing adequate medical facilities to the poor.

  • The Competition Commission of India (Commission) has found the Karnataka Chemists and Druggist Association (KCDA) and Lupin Ltd. (Lupin) to be in contravention of the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 (the Act). In a case filed by M/s Maruti & Co., it was brought to the notice of the Commission that KCDA restraints pharmaceutical companies from appointing new stockists in the State of Karnataka unless a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is obtained from it.
