The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is an all India Institution declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act. Admissions to all the Integrated First Degree programmes of BITS, Pilani, at Pilani campus, Goa campus, and Hyderabad Campus for the academic year 2014 - 15 will be made on the basis of a Computer based Online Test conducted by BITS, Pilani. This test will be referred to as ‘BITS Admission Test – 2014; in short as BITSAT - 2014 hereafter in this document.

BITSAT  is a Computer based online test for Admission to Integrated First Degree Programmes of BITS Pilani Campuses in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.

The Finishing School certificate course will be of six months duration where 2 months would be devoted to class room lectures and 4 months to hands on training. During 4 months hands on training, the students will work on a project leading to their dissertation. In the end they will submit the report in bound form which will be evaluated by external experts. The students will be required to appear in the examination at the end of the training. The students will visit centers of excellence in city like SGPGI, CDRI, IITR and others for specialized training for 3-5 days whenever required.

The P.G. programmes of the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi are aimed at training manpower with sound theoretical and experimental background in frontier areas of research in the engineering, applied sciences and interdisciplinary subjects. The emphasis is on understanding the scientific basis and engineering principles involved in solving problems of practical importance in the relevant field using multidisciplinary approach.

The Public Petition dated 11-11-1839 initiated the establishment of Madras University. It was in January 1840 with Mr.George Norton as its President, that the University Board was constituted. In 1854 after a lapse of 14 years, the Government of India formulated a systematic educational policy for India and as a sequel to this on 5th September 1857 by an act of legislative council of India the University was established. The University was organised in the model of London University.

The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is awarded to a candidate who, as per these regulations, has submitted a thesis on the basis of original and independent research in any particular discipline or involving more than one discipline (inter-disciplinary), that makes a contribution to the advancement of knowledge, which is approved by Board of examiners as required.
