In October 1990 the B. V. Patel Education Trust in conjuncture with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association established B. V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education & Research Development (PERD) Centre, in the memory of late Mr. B. V. Patel, the first Drug Controller of Gujarat.
Started with the express aim of providing the Pharmaceutical industry and academia the opportunity and resources to undertake the latest in research and development, PERD Centre is India's first multidisciplinary, postgraduate research institute, promoting advanced research, services and training in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.

Jiwaji University was established as a teaching and affiliating University on 23rd May 1964, under the provision of M. P. Government Ordinance no. 15 of 1963. Dr. Sarwapalli Radhakrishanan, the then President of India, laid the foundation stone of the University Campus on 11th December 1964
Right from its inception, Jiwaji University started with a status of a residential and an affiliating University. The territorial jurisdiction of the affiliation extends to six districts of Gwalior and Chambal Division, viz., Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Guna, Shivpuri and Datia. To begin with, the University had a total of 29 affiliated colleges. Those have steadily increased to more than 100 colleges. Till date of 26 Government and 7 non-Government colleges impart teaching up to postgraduate level. Some of the colleges have also developed into recognized research centers.

It actually started its academic and administrative activities under the leadership of Prof. Dr. N. K. Thakare, the first Vice Chancellor of the university, from academic year 1991-92. Prof. Dr. S. F. Patil took over as the second Vice Chancellor of this University on 14th Aug. 1996. During his tenure two new academic departments viz.

The College of Pharmacy, Medha was established in the year 2003 under the auspices of Meruling Shikshan Sanstha, Dare Khurd (Satara). The College is recognized by The Government of Maharashtra and affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur, approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It is located at Medha in a sprawling pollution free campus which is 20 KM away from Satara City. The College is housed in a campus with most conducive atmosphere for academic preference. Vision Our Institute will serve as a focus towards the pinnacle of academic leadership for the profession of Pharmacy. Candidates from Industry / Professions with Ph.D. degree (with First Class degree either at Bachelor’s or Master’s level) in the appropriate branch of specialization in Pharmacy and with professional work which is significant and can be recognized as equivalent to Ph.D. degree and with 15 years’ Industrial / professional experience out of which at least 5 years should be at Senior Level comparable to that of a Professor would also be eligible.
