Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 (Act. No. XIII). It was  established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning. The campus, situated in Dargakona, about 20 kms from  Silchar, is set amid sprawling hillocks, a typical landscape in the  North East. The campus  in an area of  600 acres surrounded by lakes and mountains provides  an ideal environment for academic pursuit.

CDRI is considered to be a pioneer research organization in the field of biomedical research where all the infrastructure and expertise are available to develop a drug right from its concept to market. The very latest techniques and methodologies are employed for developing drugs, diagnostics and vaccines to combat diseases prevalent among mankind in general and Indian population in particular. CDRI is a multidisciplinary research laboratory consisting of scientific personnel of various areas of biomedical sciences. For administrative and scientific purposes the Institute's manpower has been grouped into 17 R&D divisions and few divisions providing technical and scientific support.

Sree Dattha Institute of Pharmacy, founded in 2005 under the aegis of Vyjayanthi Educational Society, represents a rich tradition of excellence in pharmaceutical sciences based education. A premier-league institution among the affiliates of JNTUH under SreeDattha Institutions owes its vision to Sri G. Panduranga Reddy, the Chairman of our institutions.  It is approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi & Affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. It is having well established animal house for the experimentation on animals as per the guidelines of CPCSEA, New and the IAEC is approved by CPCSEA, New Delhi.

The history of Jamia Hamdard begins with the establishment of a small Unani clinic in the year 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, one of the well-known practitioners of Unani System of Medicine of his time. Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed had a vision of making the practice of Unani Medicine into a scientific discipline so that Unani medicines could be dispensed in a more efficacious manner to patients.
