Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) is one of the oldest National Laboratories under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). It started as the Central Laboratories for Scientific & Industrial Research (CLSIR) by the then princely State of Hyderabad in 1944. CSIR-IICT during its seventy year journey has made its mark as a dynamic, innovative and result oriented R&D organization. The clientele spans all comers of the globe. The Manipur Technical University (MTU) is the first technical university of the state established on 23rd April 2016 under The Manipur Technical University Act, 2016 (Manipur Act No.8 of 2016). It is included in the UGC list of Universities under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 and empowered to award degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 through its departments. All technical institutions operating in the state will affiliate to MTU in due course of time. The university will be in the fifth academic session during the academic year 2020-2021.

The National Institute of Plant Genome Research (formerly known as National Centre for Plant Genome Research) is an autonomous institution aided by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The Institute's establishment coincides with the 50th anniversary of India's independence as well as birth anniversary of Prof. (Dr.) J. C. Bose. The formal announcement was made on November 30th 1997. This Institute has already placed India among the major contributors to plant genomics.
