This Institute was established in the year from 1963 in IMPCOPS, Chennai with a motive to study the phyto-chemical aspects of medicinal plants in an around the city. Later Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homeopathy had taken over this Institute as grant in aid. In the year of 1979, this institute became a part of Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (formerly Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic and Siddha). This institute had diversified its activities to drug standardization besides phyto-chemical studies. This institute concentrates in formulating SOP and drug standardization of medicines belonging to Ayurveda and Siddha.

Govt. of Himachal Pradesh took up initiative in early seventies to set up a CSIR lab to make prudential use of the natural resources of the region. After several levels of discussions a formal request was made by then Chief Minister of HP to Vice President, CSIR in 1982 for initiating the matter, and giving final shape to the proposal. The dream of HP government finally came true in 1983 when the foundation stone of this National lab was laid as CSIR Complex Palampur by Prof. Nurul Hasan, former Vice President of CSIR, with then Chief Minister of HP chairing the function.

KMIO is arecognised exclusive tertiary cancer care centre cum academic and research institutes, delivering modern health care by groups of trained professionals and paraprofessionals coming together as interdisciplinary teams and has facilities for advanced medical investigation and treatment. KMIO was accorded RCC statuson 1st Nov 1980 by Government of India and is a member of UICC and recognised by WHO. KMIO is State Government Autonomous Institute. The Indian Council of Medical Research has recognised this referral Institution as a research organization.

The application shall have the length of uninterrupted contractual service of the employee in the said post under the society & the names of the previous stations in such post, his/her present place of posting & his/her category to which he/she belongs as per record (UR/SC/ST/SEBC/PWD/Women etc.) with due certification, from the concerned authority. For the calculation of the incumbency, the last uninterrupted service in the same post under the society shall be taken in to account. As per vacancies, the candidates having highest incumbencies shall be repositioned & posted against such vacancies.
