    Central Ayurveda Research Institute Bengaluru is one of the peripheral Institutes of Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences functioning under Ministry of AYUSH Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Institute consists of three divisions (1) Clinical Research Unit (CRU) (2) Drug Standardization Research Unit (DSRU) and (3) Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit (SMPU). CARI is successfully providing OPD consultations, free Ayurveda medicines, basic diagnostics, Panchakarma, Yoga to the needy public in the hospital and through outreach camps in nearby areas.

    The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), under Ministry of Ayush, is an ensemble of 30 tangential institutes. This apex body in India is amongst the leading research organizations in the field of Ayurveda i.e. Indian heritage system of medicine. Over the years, the council is devotedly working for undertaking, coordinating, formulating, developing and promoting research on scientific lines in Ayurvedic Sciences through its different peripheral units and also through collaborative studies with various Universities, Hospitals and Institutes.

    It was established initially as Regional Research Institute (Ay.) in 1979 with the merger of survey of Medicinal Plants Unit (SMPU), Mobile Clinical Research Unit (MCRU) in addition to Community Health Care Research Programme. The Institute was upgraded as Central Research Institute (Ay.) in 1999. The Institute has shifted to its own building in August 2002. As per the notification of CCRAS dated 15th December 2009, the Institute has been re-upgraded in category A and named as National Research Institute for Ayurveda –Siddha Human Resource Development, Gwalior.

    This Institute was established in the year from 1963 in IMPCOPS, Chennai with a motive to study the phyto-chemical aspects of medicinal plants in an around the city. Later Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homeopathy had taken over this Institute as grant in aid. In the year of 1979, this institute became a part of Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (formerly Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic and Siddha). This institute had diversified its activities to drug standardization besides phyto-chemical studies.
