IIIT Una is one of the 20 IIITs being setup, funded and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India under the Public Private Partnership model. The partners setting up IIIT Una are the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, HP Power Corporation Limited and HP Transmission Corporation Limited. Admissions to the undergraduate programmes in the Institute are made through the Joint Entrance Examination.

The School of Pharmacy came into existence in the year 2015, with academic programs D. Pharm., B. Pharm. and Ph.D. From the academic session 2019-20, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has approved the increase in the intake of B. Pharm to 100 seats. Both D. Pharm and B. Pharm programs are duly approved by the PCI under section 12 of Pharmacy Act 1948. All the courses are approved by HPPERC and Government of Himachal. Every year, the faculties are participating in FDPs, Conferences, Workshops.

The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur is one of the National Institutes under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research which is an autonomous body working under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.
