Biotechnology

The Department of Health Research was created as a new Department under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare vide Presidential notification dated 17th September 2007 by an amendment to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, with the objective of facilitating a well-functioning health research system in the country. To fulfill its assigned mandate, DHR runs various bio-medical research schemes as well as administers the Indian Council of Medical Research, an autonomous body under DHR.

The history of Jamia Hamdard begins with the establishment of a small Unani clinic in the year 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, one of the well-known practitioners of Unani System of Medicine of his time. Since its inception in 1970, it has been making vigorous efforts to improve the reproductive health of people through research, education and health care services.

NIAB is an autonomous and premier institute of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The Institute aims to develop and harness novel and emerging biotechnological tools and applications, and take up research in cutting-edge areas for improving animal health and productivity as well as contribute to human health and welfare.
