National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous R&D Institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The institute has a state-of-the-art facility in translational research areas at the interface of Agricultural Biotechnology and Food & Nutritional Biotechnology. Applications are invited from the individuals possessing an outstanding research record and enthusiasm to support the organization having a world-class research environment and active partnership with the public and private sectors.

The AIIMS, New Delhi model will be adopted and adapted. Unlike the Postgraduate Institutes which lack the basic departments like Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology etc, the new AIIMS will have these departments as well as the superspecialty departments like neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, urology, endocrinology etc.

This Institute was established in the year from 1963 in IMPCOPS, Chennai with a motive to study the phyto-chemical aspects of medicinal plants in an around the city. Later Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homeopathy had taken over this Institute as grant in aid. In the year of 1979, this institute became a part of Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (formerly Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic and Siddha). This institute had diversified its activities to drug standardization besides phyto-chemical studies.

Since its inception, over 48000 have graduated from IIT Delhi in various disciplines including Engineering, Physical Sciences, Management and Humanities & Social Sciences. Of these, nearly 5070 received Ph.D. degrees. The number of students who graduated with B.Tech. degree is over 15738. The rest obtained Master’s Degree in Engineering, Sciences and Business Administration. These alumni today work as scientists, technologists, business managers and entrepreneurs.

NIAB is an autonomous and premier institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The Institute aims to develop and harness novel and emerging biotechnological tools and applications, and take up research in cutting-edge areas for improving animal health and productivity as well as contribute to human health and welfare.
