In the year 1923, the British Government established a Public Service Commission to examine the salary structure of the Indian Civil Service. The Commission was composed of four Englishmen and four Indian with Lord Lee of Fareham serving as its Chairman. The Commission also addressed the rate of Indianization of the Indian Civil Service and the Indian Police.

The dreams of its founding fathers took shape in 1984 in the form of Shanmugha College of Engineering, which is now renamed, SHANMUGHA ARTS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & RESEARCH ACADEMY (SASTRA). Our programmes, infrastructure, teaching-learning, etc., are among the country's finest. SASTRA has always been proactive in its academic planning and believes in gaining the first-mover advantage. As a testimony to this, the Government of India has conferred the Deemed University status to SASTRA on April 26, 2001 under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. SASTRA offers various undergraduate and post graduate courses in Engineering, Science, Education, Management, Law and Arts besides various Doctoral programmes and has state-of-the-art laboratories, a well stocked library and one of the best computing facilities.  With a sprawling campus having a built-up area of 2,22,129.02 square metre spread over 232 acres and a vibrant population of over 10,000 students and over 700 teaching faculty have made SASTRA a landmark in the educational map of India.

The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) is the new state-of-the-art R&D satellite of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), which also includes under its umbrella the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), the largest cancer hospital in Asia.

Shri Vithal Education and Research Institute' s College of  Pharmacy, Pandharpur was established in 2006 in Solapur District of Pharmacy. College run Diploma, Degree, Post Graduate courses in pharmacy. It is also an approved center for PhD.

G. Pulla Reddy College of Pharmacy is established in the year 1994-95, sponsored by G. Pulla Reddy Charities Trust, under the chairmanship of Late Sri G. Pulla Reddy garu, a Philanthropist, social reformer and well known as Sweet Pulla Reddy. He has promoted several educational institutions under the Trust. The college is located in a beautiful campus in Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad. The campus is spread over in 5 acres of land in a calm & quiet natural habitat. Mehdipatnam is well connected to all corners of the city by local bus services.

Swami Ramananda Tirtha Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nalgonda, Telangana state, was established in the year 2007 under the aegis of Swami Ramananda Tirtha Education Society to impart Quality Pharmacy Education to the aspirants of the region especially the Rural Community. Endowed with the State-of-the- art infrastructure in salubrious environment, SRTIPS offering B.Pharm & M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology & Ph. anaylsis) courses and is striving hard to uplift Professional Pharmacy Education among rural students. The trust has been carrying out religious, educational and health based activities since its incepation in 1953. The Sat Kaival Eye Hospital is in health sector and Paramguru Pathshala Complex housing school, non-technical colleges in education sector. Sat Kaival College of Pharmacy is first technical college setup by the trust. The trust believes in providing modern, scientific and value based education.
