National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.

DRILS is named after Late Dr. Kallam Anji Reddy, the Founder Chairman of the Institute. His vision and impetus led to the creation of the Institute, conceived as a means to forge a strong research bond between academia and industry. Its research center became operational in 2007. The Institute of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), is a premier research centre carrying out frontier research in the field stem cell biology. inStem has initiated a collaborative program of research with the National Centre for Biological Sciences and the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences. The program aims to understand the cellular and molecular basis of mental illness with a long-term goal to develop new therapies. The program involves generation and analysis of cellular models using patient derived human induced pluripotent stem cells (HiPSCs) and its differentiated derivatives. We are looking for individuals with cell biology experience to assist in establishment and analysis of human induced pluripotent stem cell (HiPSC) lines.
