SIMATS College of Pharmacy, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (Saveetha University), Chennai, celebrated the National Pharmacy Education Day in accordance with the directions of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), held during March 5, 2026 at Kurinji Hall, Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Chennai.
The event commemorated the birth anniversary of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff, widely recognized as the Father of Pharmacy Education in India. National Pharmacy Education Day, observed annually on March 6, honors his pioneering contributions to the development and advancement of pharmacy education in the country.
To mark the occasion, SIMATS College of Pharmacy, Chennai organized a National Seminar titled “Future Pharma Ecosystem – Fostering Synergy among Academia, Industry, Research, Regulatory and Practice”. The seminar was convened by Dr. Ramaiyan Velmurugan (Principal, SIMATS College of Pharmacy), and coordinated by Dr. Rathinavelu Mohanraj, Program Coordinator (EC Member IPA Hospital Pharmacy Division, Associate Professor, DoPP, SIMATS College of Pharmacy); and Chair Persons - Prof. Thirumalai Kumaran and Prof. Bhavya Ekambaram.
The seminar was graced by Shri J. Jayaseelan (President, The Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council) as the Chief Guest, and Prof. S. Kavimani (Central Council Member, Pharmacy Council of India - PCI), New Delhi) as the Invited Guest. Dr. M. Thamizh Mozhi (Registrar, The Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council), and Dr. Deattu (EC Member, The Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council), attended as Guests of Honour.
The event served as a national-level academic initiative aimed at promoting excellence, innovation, and collaboration in pharmaceutical sciences. It featured eminent speakers and panelists from leading pharmacy institutions, including Dr. N. Harikrishnan (Dean and Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Institute, Chennai); Dr. P. Shanmugasundaram (Dean and Professor, School of Pharmacy, Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies - VISTAS), Chennai; Dr. K. Sujatha (Principal and Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, SRIHER, Chennai; Dr. R. Srinivasan (Dean and Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, Bharath Institute of Higher Education Research - BIHER), Chennai; Dr. Chitra Vellapandian (Dean and Professor, SRM College of Pharmacy, SRM Institute of Science and Technology - SRMIST), Chennai; Dr. K. Lakshmi (Dean and Professor, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education - CARE), Chennai; and Dr. P. Muthusamy (Assistant Professor in Pharmacy, Madras Medical College, Chennai).
The celebration witnessed more than 500 enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and representatives from nearly 20 pharmacy institutions across the country, making the event a meaningful platform for scientific interaction and knowledge sharing.
